Chapter 6

Chapter 6

Five months ago...

Rita Quinn

I have no idea what the time is, but I know that I'm already late for work. Thank goodness my best friend called me, maybe I would've still been in bed, sleeping my life away now.

It takes me ten minutes to have my bath and in less than thirty minutes, I'm all ready for work. I take another glance at my reflection in the mirror, before I finally stride out of the room and close the door behind me.

Descending the staircase, the aroma coming from the kitchen welcomes me, and I salivate. Too bad that I won't be able to eat before leaving for work. I'm already late, and it'll be worse if I stay back to have breakfast.

"Good morning, ma'am," that's my maid, Lisa. I have been living with Lisa for over a year, and I must confess that she matches my taste in people. She has everything I want in someone. She does her work diligently, and she has become a part of my family.

"Hey, it's Rita for you..." I roll my eyes at her, and she purses her lips. I have told her many times to quit with the formalities and address me by my name, but it seems like it has been difficult to do.

"Sorry... Your breakfast is ready," she says.

"I'm late for work. I can't have breakfast. I'll eat when I get to the office. See you later," I pinch her cheeks and with that, I stride to the exit door and saunters out of the living room.

My name is Rita Quinn, the only child of the popular Mr. Austin Quinn, one of the top wealthiest men in Las Vegas. I'm just a twenty-four years old young lady, living alone and working to cater for myself. I'm living my life just like every other normal people because I hate drawing attention. Sorry, but nobody knows that I'm Mr. Austin's child. I know it may not make sense to strive to survive on my own and make my own money when I can work in my dad's company and be a boss of my own, but I have my reasons for doing that, and that, which you will know as the time goes by.

The drive to the office is quite stressful and annoying, as I was stuck in traffic for almost twenty minutes. My boss has been calling and yelling over the phone, I'm in trouble, I know that.

I finally arrive at the company after what seemed like an eternity. Parking at the garage, I step out of the car and saunter to the entrance door, making my way straight to his office. I was supposed to be at the office by 7am, and I'm already an hour late.

Stepping into his office, I find him sitting behind his desk having all his attention on the screen of the desktop as his fingers move speedily on the keyboards. His face is hardened as usual.

"Good morning, Sir," I greet him.

"What says by your time, Rita?" He asks in his usual calm and yet cold voice, not sparing me a glance.

"Uhm... I'm sorry, Sir. I was stuck in a traffic jam," I whisper the last part, but he still heard me though. He finally raises his gaze to look at me, and I turn my face away immediately.

"You're an hour late, Rita? What were you doing at home? This is getting out of hand. As my secretary, you should always get here before me and not the other way round. Are you serious with your job at all?" He scoffs, anger resounding in his voice, and I gulp down nothing nervously. I'm not surprised, what do I expect when I'm working with a psycho? Let me introduce my boss, his name is Ryan Williams, the CEO of Apple's cosmetics group of company.

I have been working with him for over three years, and it hasn't been easy working with him. It takes all the patience in the world to deal with this young man. According to what I heard, none of his secretaries ever lasted for a month, as they always ended up leaving on their own or he sacks them. He is temperament and it's surprising how I have been able to deal with him all these years.

"I'm sorry..."

"Get ready, you're meeting a client on my behalf in an hour and a half. I don't know how you're going to do it, but I need last week's documents to be sorted out before and submitted to my email before you leave. You can go now," he dismisses me, and I sigh in relief before I finally stride out of his office. I was expecting him to yell his lungs out like he always did but turns out that he is in a good mood today.

Forty minutes later...

I didn't expect to finish up with the documents so fast, but I did anyways. Ryan would've skinned me alive if I didn't do it. I'm finally on my way to the supposed client he asked me to go meet up with. It's the manager of Orange skincare company. Orange skin care is the top most popular and successful skincare company in Las Vegas and across the country. Many other companies have always wanted to be endorsed by the company but never succeeded. There's something unusual about the company, nobody knows who the CEO is, but rumors had it that he's someone no one would want to associate with. I heard he's arrogant.

Stepping into the company, I park in the garage and step out of the car. The company is worth gawking at. I've seen the image in magazines and on TV, but this is my first time seeing it for real, and I must confess that it's so beautiful.

I proceed to the entrance door and heads straight to the elevator. I'm nervous as this is my first time doing something like this, but I have to do this. The elevator door finally opens after some seconds of pressing the button, and I walk inside. I watch as the doors roll close to each other, and just when they're about to close, they suddenly stop abruptly as I behold a hand in the middle of the doors, and they roll open again.

I raise my gaze to check where the hand came from, and my mouth drops open in shock at the sight that welcomes me. Am I dreaming? What!...
