TESSA POV

"Do you guys hear that a new professor is coming today?" Lyla asked, sitting beside me in a room full of students, her voice pitched low but bright with the kind of excitement that meant she'd been waiting all morning to say it.

Tyla turned toward her immediately. "Do you know who it is?"

"No, but I heard he was invited by the principal himself. Apparently he's very prestigious."

Tyla's eyes widened. "Really?"

"That's what I heard."

"I just hope he's nice," Tyla said. "Some prestigious professors can be so difficult."

Lyla laughed. "That's true."

I kept my eyes on my laptop, scrolling through the research...
