I frowned as I entered the main door of our house. Yaya Aurelia greeted me with a smile on her lips. Irritated, I still gave her a smile. She is the oldest maid we have. She guided me and my sister as we grew up. We also consider her a second mother.
"There you are, Cheska." she said and tried to take my books from me but I immediately avoided it.
"Don't do it, Yaya. It's fine. Is mom and dad here already?"
She shook her head. "But your sister is already up there. She just came home, too."
I nodded. "All right. I'll go upstairs."
"Hmm. I'll start making your dinner and your parents is definitely on their way home. I'll just call you."
"Yes, yaya."
My feet were heavy as I climbed the stairs. Uncontrollably, the hurtful words Daniel had said to me earlier flashed in my mind. Will their team be embarrassed because of me? Hah! How can that happen? Is he that annoyed with the way I look?
At any angle, I couldn’t really understand why he feels irritated towards me. I'm not boasting myself here but is he blind? Can't he see how I look like? Can't he see that I'm prettier than his girlfriend?
I took a deep breath and forced myself to calm down but whatever I did it didn’t work. I feel frustrated and embarrassed! I shouldn't pay attention to him because we don't know each other. But that's the main point! We don't know each other but there he was, insulting me like I'm the ugliest woman in the world.
"Hi, sis. Care to tell me the reason of that scowl in your face? Is there a problem?" Meet Adrianna, my only sister.
She's sitting on the white marble floor while writing on her binder. Her two arms rested on the center table, in front of it was a glass of orange juice and a saucer containing cake. When she's doing something, be it homework or whatever, she loves to stay in this area instead of her room. I do not know why. She was used to it.
I collapsed and sat myself on the couch in front of her and exhaled. I fixed my gaze on her direction and she's looking at me with confusion dancing in her almond eyes.
"Just tired of school ..." I excused.
Her eyebrows rose causing her to look stubborn. Among the two of us, she is always mistaken for being a bitch because of the sharpness of her eyes. The two of us have natural thick eyebrows, we inherited it from Mommy. The only difference between us is that hers is a wreck while mine is well -groomed and shaved because of Amanda.
Amanda knows how to shave eyebrows and make them on fleek.
"In your three years in college, this is the first time I heard you complain because of school. I mean, that you're tired," Rian replied. "Are you not happy with your new school, sis? It's been three months since you transferred there. "
"It's fun. It's just that there's really a lot to do. When you're in your third year, you'll be busy too."
"I'm still stressed in my first year. I'm even more stressed because I don't like this course." She sighed as sadness invaded her eyes. "Do you think I can still pursue Dentistry, sis?"
I smiled and nodded my head. "You will. After you finished BSBM. I will help you."
Because of the business we have, even the course we take is also controlled by our parents. Business management is fine with me. It won't be a big deal for me. My only concern is my sister. I hope they just let her take the course she really wanted.
She smiled sadly at me. "When I become a dentist and Mommy got a broken teeth, I won't really fix it!"
We both laughed. She went back to whatever she's writing so I took that opportunity to lean back on the couch and look at the ceiling.
Am I right to agree to be the muse of our school? I don't have the courage to walk in a crowd. But because of the desire to prove to that Daniel that I am someone to be proud of, I became impulsive in making a decision.
I don't know how I will be able to prepare myself on that day. It's just a month before Intrams Day. If I back out, it means that I will let the varsity down.
Amanda is right, Ches. When did you ever give a damn about what others say against you? Why do you have to prove yourself to a man who has no role in your life?
"Adrianna, am I ugly?"
Before I could think that question came out of my mouth while my eyes was still focus on the ceiling.
Adrianna didn't answer right away so I sat up straight. When I looked at her, she's raising an eyebrow at me.
"Are you okay, sister? Do you want me to put a mirror all over your room so you will see how beautiful you are?"
I grimaced. "You're exaggerated, sis"
"It's true," she replied. "Why did you suddenly become conscious of your appearance? Did someone flirt with you at school?"
I leaned my body on the backrest again and exhaled. Some of the hair on my face moved.
"No. Not part of my priorities," I answered. "How about ... appeal? Do I have that?"
We will never forget, Francheska, that you are not affected by what Daniel says to you.
Lines appeared on Adrianna's forehead after hearing my question.
"What's your real problem, sis? You asked me earlier if you were beautiful, and now that? What's the matter?"
I pouted. It also makes no sense if I ask her. She's my sister. It just means that she will say that I have an appeal even if I don't have.
"Nevermind. I just asked. Anyway, I'm going to get dressed. Finish that because we'll eat later. Our parents is already on their way here."
I got up. I could feel her heavy gaze on me but I didn't pay attention to it. I don't want to tell her what happened at school or how I accepted our varsity offer to be their muse. It will only raise questions from her.
"How's school, Mera Francheska?" Dad asked while we're in the middle of having dinner. From the food on my plate, I ascended my eyes on him and smiled a bit. He wasn’t looking at me but I knew he could feel my every move.
"Fine, Dad."
"No boyfriend?"
Mommy and I looked at each other. She raised an eyebrow and waited for me to answer.
"No, please. Study is my priority."
"That's good. You can't have a relationship yet while you're studying. If you're going to have a relationship, you need to choose someone whose family is also wealthy and powerful like us." "Yes, Dad."
He shifted his sharp gaze to my sister who was just quietly chewing beside me and seemed to have a world of her own.
"Same with you, Adrianna Grace. Study hard because you and your sister will manage our businesses at the right time."
"Yes, Dad."
That's the only words we can answer. We have no choice but to agree. Time passed. We are in our respective rooms. I was currently answering homework when I heard three knocks on my door. I opened it. I smiled when I saw Manang Aurelia carrying my newly ironed uniform.
"Cheska, this is your uniform."
"All right, Manang. Please just hang it on the dresser ..." I said and she immediately obeyed.
I looked at my uniform for a while. It's a dark gray pencil skirt and a white chinese collar longsleeve. When wearing, the skirt is slightly above my knees. Amanda said that it's too long for her taste. Even the top was a bit loose in my body. I'm not very comfortable with clothes that are too fit to my body.
Crisanta and the kind of clothes she wore suddenly came to my mind. Her uniform is different from mine. Her course is tourism so it really looks sexy.
Why did I suddenly think about her? "Do you want milk, hija?" Yaya Aurelia asked.
But on a second thought ... can I also try to tighten my uniform and shorten it ... a little?
"Cheska, are you okay?"
"I'm fine!" I said defensively.
"Are you sure? Do you want milk?" "Yes, please."
"Wait and I'll get you."
She was about to turn around when I called her.
"Why?"
"Uh, yaya. You have a sewing machine in your room, right?"
She nodded, having no idea what to say. "Why did you ask?"
I sat up straight. "I-Is it okay for you to fix my uniforms?"
She frowned and glanced at my uniform that was hanging. "It's okay. But why? Is there a problem with its fitting? It's just right for your body."
"Uh ... for a change, yaya." running out of excuses I answered.
For a change, my ass. You're really affected by that Daniel!
"Is this size okay with you, hija? Even the shortness of it, is it okay?" Yaya Aurelia asked after I measured and told her how short my skirt should be.
I asked her to cut it for another one and a half inches. It's just right. Not too short and not too long. But compared to the usual beyond the knee there is a big difference.
I woke up earlier the next day. We have a long quiz in basic finance and it's my first subject. Our professor there is a terror so it will definitely stress Camille again later.
I hurried to take a bath. When I came out of the bathroom I saw the uniform on my bed. It's the one repaired by Yaya Aurelia. I took a deep breath as I looked at the skirt.
I didn't waste any time. After wearing my underwear, I followed my skirt and immediately frowned when I saw that almost half of my thigh was exposed. Because my hips were quite large, the skirt became fitter to me. Fortunately, I got a flat stomach.
I proceeded to put on the longsleeve which I also asked Yaya Aurelia to tightened. The fitting of it is just exact in my body. I tacked my longsleeve inside my skirt and looked at myself through the mirror. I took a deep breath, satisfied with the result of my uniform.
When I got dressed, I combed my hair and put lipstick on my face. I never wear make up. I always come in without anything on the face. This time, I applied lip and cheek tint. I also curled my eyelashes up and I'm good to go.
The family car halted on the school's parking lot after half an hour.
"I'll go first, Manong Dennis. Drive safely." I said to the driver and opened the door on my side.
"All right, Cheska. Just text me later if you want me to fetch you already."
"Yes!"
Carrying some books that I could barely handle properly, I walked quickly towards the main entrance. As I walked I hardly arranged the books in my arm.
"Shit!" I was secretly shocked when I felt my books collide and fall on the ground.
"I'm sorry ..." said a baritone voice. I saw him squat in front of me and helped me take the books. "I wasn't looking where I was walking."
I looked up. The man is good looking, that's what I first figured out. He got a boyish and rugged aura but it was okay because he was handsome. His almond eyes were in a shade of brown. The eyebrows are thick, the nose is pointed and got a fair complexion. He has braces and a small earing on his left ear.
He must have felt me staring at him because he suddenly lifted his eyes to me.
"It's okay. I wasn't looking too." I said and smiled at him.
His lips seperated as his cheeks reddened a bit. He averted his eyes but immediately returned them to me. A smile also tickled his lips. He nodded and picked up some books before standing up. Even I stood up.
"I'm still sorry." he said smiling and handed me the books.
I nodded, laughing at his reaction as well. "It's okay. I'll go ahead."
"Wait ..." he stopped, causing me not to continue walking away. He held out his hand to me. "I'm Calix ..."
I looked at his hands before accepting and glanced up at him.
"I'm-"
"Francheska."
My forehead furrowed. "You know me?"
"Everybody knows who you are."
I laughed. "Apparently not-"
"Calix ..."
We both looked at the gate when we heard that voice. Irritation invaded my chest when I saw Daniel leaning against the post. His arms crossed and he was staring at me seriously, there's no grin on his face. Unlike when I first met him yesterday.
Ah. His face is enough to ruin my morning.
I took my eyes off him and turned to Calix. He's looking at Daniel but anchored his eyes back to me. He smiled at me.
"It's nice meeting you, Calix. I'll go now."
"I'll walk with you, Cheska. I'm about to attend my class, too."
He is? But why was he going the other way when he bumped into me?
I answered him with a small smile and walked ahead. My heart is thumping as I ambled towards the gate. Even if I try not to look at him, it's as if his eyes are still pulling me. I looked at him and he was drilling his piercing eyes into mine. I saw his eyes drop from my face down to my body. His eyes stayed on my legs and the corners of his mouth suddenly twitched.
As I got closer I took my eyes off him and headed straight to the building. I walked past him and heard him let out a soft chuckle. I felt the presence of Calix not far behind me. I barely felt detached especially that I knew they were behind me.
Given the state of my uniform ... I exhaled.
"Good morning, Ches."
"Hi, Ches. You look good."
I just smiled back at the engineering students I met around. I continued walking when I heard someone behind me.
"Douchebags ..." it was Daniel's voice.
Even if I wanted to turn around, I didn't do it because I knew I would be irritated especially if our eyes met again. What he told me last night was still fresh and I won't forget it unless he apologizes to me, which I know is impossible.
