Calum's POV
I woke up in the middle of the night because of the freezing temperature of the room. I turn to my side where Summer is to see her sleeping peacefully, some hair strands on her face makes her look hot. I gently moved her arm away from my stomach so I won't wake her up when I move. I climbed out of bed and put the aircon's temperature to the middle, not too hot or cold. I tucked the comforter to cover her.
I went out of my room in my boxers and headed at the lounge where the four of us usually hangout. And there, I saw my brothers sitting and drinking some beers. I glanced at the clock and it's almost midnight.
"Hey, where's Summer?" Luke asked me.
"You know. She doesn't like you." And they laughed as I sit beside Ashton.
"So, where is she?" Michael asked again.
"In my room. Sleeping."
"What?! You fucked her?!" Michael exclaimed.
"No!" I kinda shouted with a laugh.
They glared at me as they wait for a serious answer.
"Really guys, I didn't touch her okay? Just a hug." I tell them. "She's not even my girlfriend yet."
"Whatever." Luke laughed as he grips on his beer bottle.
"By the way, Hero called to remind the party." I tell them as I decline the beer that Ashton is offering.
"What party?" Michael's brows are pulled together.
"The 25th anniversary, moron." Luke answered before I do. Then Michael nods.
"So, you guys are bringing your girlfriends?" I don't even know why I asked it though but they nod their heads yes.
"Are you planning to bring anyone?" Ashton asked me.
"Summer won't go." I frowned.
"Cal, you do know that she is not a part of what we do underground." Luke said but it sounded between a question or a reminder.
"Yeah. But that won't harm her." I kinda defended.
I know it's risky and dangerous for her to come in this party. Mafia parties are the same with all those rich shit parties, only the speech is different, and I bet Summer might lose it if she finds out, she might freak out or runaway from party. But there is something inside me that wants her to know the real me, the real thing we do.
"I'm a bit concern about Summer." Luke speaks up.
"Really?" I say with sarcasm.
"You know how dangerous our world is." Luke tells me, and yes, I know it.
"I'll protect her." I say.
"She'll freak out if she finds out." Michael said.
"Are you guys going to school tomorrow?" I ask them.
"Well, yeah." Ashton answered but sounded unsure.
"I am. I'm having fun in NYU." Michael says.
Luke just nodded.
"Aren't you?" Ashton ask.
"I will, I guess." I answer.
Then silence filled in as I watch my brothers drink their bottled beers. The room is cool, the ambiance is peaceful and bearable, who would have ever thought that the people living here are criminals? The thought of us being in the world's most wanted list is giving me chills and excitement, the fact that they only have our names and nothing else makes me proud of what we can do. The housemaids in here doesn't have any idea too that they work for the youngest mafia kids. Well, Luke is the youngest, he's just 18.
"How is the trading going, Calum?" Luke asked, making my thoughts fall.
"Well, it's good. New deals will be done on the party."
"There will be a meeting too after that party I guess." Michael says.
"Yeah. There are some recruits who wanna join." Ashton added.
"And there are some shit to clean out." Luke says.
We do live in the life with guns and roses. Yes, we do kill people, but we don't harm the innocent ones, unless they mess or cause us trouble. Conscience has no place in this world, in our world, but we do know how to love, we still have that side. At the thought of love, what is love anyways? How do you know if it's love? Who knows what real love is? I met a lot of girls before, I had some flings and hook ups, fucked some but it meant nothing to me. We fucked, that's it and no strings attached. I never had a girlfriend. Ashton was the first in the four of us to have a girlfriend and it's Charmaine, a mafia daughter from Mexico chapter. Luke was the second and it's with Justine, mafia daughter from Japan. Then Michael with Nicole, mafia daughter from London. Their girlfriends are kind and I am friends with them, they rock, they are not your typical girls because they know how to use guns and they are good at it. How do they all meet? At the parties, mafias all around the world love to party, I have no idea why. But for me, it's all about showing off your shit and counting money and cars. But still, we have to go because of the title that we have and to keep up reputation.
"I'll go ahead. Good night guys." I tell them before standing on my feet. They nod their heads then I walk back to my room.
I slowly opened the door and peaked in before entering. Summer is still asleep and haven't move position. I take my place on the bed and hugged her before closing my eyes again.
Summer's POV
I opened my eyes and the first thing I saw is a dark hair between my neck and chest. His heavy breathing tells me that he is still sleeping. I glanced at the wall clock and saw that it's already 6am. School starts at 9am, I have to go home!
"Calum?" I call while I shake him gently.
"Calum." I repeat, my voice is a bit louder and my shake is a bit harder.
"Ca-" I was stopped by his groan and when he moved away from me.
I slowly climbed out of bed to avoid waking him up. I looked for my clothes and school things, I found it on the study table. My clothes are also dried already, I immediately changed and went out of his room quietly. Then it hit me that I am in a big place and I have no idea where their door is.
"Damn." I mumbled.
I started walking and I end up at a hall with a lot of photos and paintings, it looks like a gallery. I looked around and saw that the photos are the Wayland brothers. Then there is this huge family photo that is in the center of the wall and surrounded by little photos. I walked to look more and saw a photo of the Wayland brothers (see media section), good looks really runs in their blood, who would've thought that it's possible, and their parents look good too.
I walked back to where I came from and I walked past by Calum's room. I ended up in a lounge where there is a couch and table, and there are empty beer bottles on it. Did they drink last night? But it's school days, well, whatever.
"Ehem." A fake cough bolted me and I turned around too see a shirtless Luke in his boxers, my eyes widened in the shock of my sight.
"I.. Uhh.. I'm sorry, I.. I-" I am stuttering and a bit shaking.
"Where are you going?" He ask me, his tone is still sleepy.
"Going home.." I answer in a low voice.
"Where is Calum?"
"In his room, still sleeping.."
"Oh, so.." He stopped and we looked at each other awkwardly.
"Sit there, I'll just change up. I'll drive you home." Luke says before turning his back at me and walk away. Did I heard him right or am I just dreaming? I sat at the couch and waited for him, awkwardly.
After a few minutes, Luke came back wearing a black muscle tee, black skinny jeans with a hole on the knee, a snapback and a black converse, and yes, he looks hot with his morning hair a while ago. What the fuck am I even thinking?
"Let's go." He tells me then he walks off and I follow.
"I'll tell Calum that I drove you home." He tells me as we step out of the door.
On the road..
Just like Calum's car, Luke's car is amazing too. The drive in the road is quiet, mostly awkward. Now I see Calum's point about Luke being kind too, and I have to admit that he is.
"Uhm, thanks for driving me home." I say awkwardly.
"Not a problem." His tone is a bit cold, I don't know. "How did you meet Calum?" He took a quick glance at me.
"Oh, in the cafeteria yesterday."
"Are you guys dating?" His question bolted me.
"What? No." Are we?
"Why are you in our house yesterday then? You even slept in his room."
"He asked me for dinner and he said he's too tired to drive me home last night."
"I see, hey, don't get me wrong. I'm just asking. No other meanings." He smiled.
He took his sight back on the road as I look at him for a seconds more. I take my eyes on the roads, Luke is kind and Calum is right. All of them are kind actually, their parents raised them well. I told Luke to make a turn on the next street, we stopped at the front of our house.
"Hey, thanks again, Luke." I smiled.
"Not a problem, Summer. See you in school." He smiles.
I look at him drove off from our neighborhood. I turned to our house and took a deep breath. Now, to face my parents.
"Where have you been, Summer?!" My Mom yelled at me when I opened the front door. They are sitting at the couch then.
"I'm sorry, Mom. School is tough." I lied. Why the fuck am I lying?
"Maybe we should allow her to get a dorm in NYU." Dad suggested.
My Mom's angry facade faded into a soft one. In the past few months before college started, we talked about having a dorm near NYU, I am a bit far from NYU and there are a lot of vacant dorms near the school and there is also the NYU dorm that is inside the campus grounds. I like the idea of having a dorm, but I think my Mom will not allow me, since I am an only child.
"I'll think about that." Mom tells Dad, I hope she agrees with it. Mom walked into the kitchen, leaving me and Dad in the living room.
"Are you okay, Summer? Did you have a good sleep?"
"Yes, Dad. I am okay and I did have a good sleep." As I say those words, I think about last night and I can't stop smiling from it.
I headed up in my room to fix myself up. The hot water from the shower relaxes my muscles, enabling me to think properly and without intense shit. As the water runs into me, a shirtless Calum popped in my vision, his perfectly physique body makes me tremble. I wore a plain white shirt with a black and red flannel, black jeans and my usual sneakers to patch it up. I headed in the dining room and found my parents to stop talking when I entered the zone. I sat awkwardly at my chair as they both look at me.
"You're going to the NYU dorm." Dad tells me.
"What?" I ask in disbelief, my eyes are a bit wider at the thought as I look at Dad then Mom then back to Dad. "Really?!" I ask again, not hiding my excitement and they both nod yes.
Calum's POV
"Summer?" I called, not opening my eyes but extending my arm on the side on where she is. I immediately turned around with my eyes wide open to see that she is not in my bed anymore. I jolted up and looked at my study table to see that her things are already gone, leaving my shirt behind folded and in place. I rubbed my eyes then I heard my door opened.
"Hey, Cal." It's Luke and he's still holding at the knob of my door.
"Yeah?" I ask as I sit up and place my feet on the cold ground and place my arms in the edge of my bed to support me as I kinda lean forward.
"I drove Summer home."
"You what?!" I glared at Luke and his eyes widened.
"Chill, Calum. She needs to get home for class and she didn't wanna wake you up." He says and it drifted my facade to a softer one.
"Well, thanks Luke."
"Not a problem." Then he went off and closed the door.
I get out of bed and headed at my bathroom. I relaxed myself in the tub of lukewarm water with my eyes closed. I don't mind skipping school today. Then the thought of the mafia party hits me again, will it harm Summer if she comes with me? I dried myself up and wear a raglan shirt with black sleeves, black jeans and a converse high cut. I headed out my room and went to Ashton's room. I knocked and entered without waiting for him to answer. I found him standing at in front of the mirror with just a towel from his hips down.
"You're up early." He tells me as he look at me from the mirror while fixing up his curly brown hair.
"Well, not finding Summer in my room jolted me up."
"Oh? Where is she now then?"
"Luke drove her home."
"Luke drove her home?" He sounds surprised, well, I am too. I never thought that Luke would do that. Well, Luke is kind though.
"Yeah. So I'm going to school to pick her up." I say as I sit at Ashton's couch.
Ashton turned to me with a confused expression. "You're going on a date?"
"Shopping."
"What? You'll shop her?"
"Yeah, for the party tomorrow."
"You've got to be kidding me." He tells with a little laugh but stopped at instant when I displayed my serious face.
"You're kidding, right?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Ash, do you think it will harm her if she comes?"
"Cal, you do know it's risky. And she doesn't know anything about our mafia side." Ash tells me with full concern on his voice.
"But, it's just a party."
"Mom and Dad will not like that, Calum."
"Why not?"
"Cal, she is not a mafia kid or whatever. If you wanna bring her to the party, at least tell her what she is gonna encounter." Ash crossed his arms over his bare chest. "You know how the people in our world goes."
I know that Ashton is right in every words and I am very concern about those facts.
"What do I do then?"
"It's your choice, Cal. But I suggest not to bring her, unless she wants to."
"Thanks, Ash. I'll go ahead." I say before walking out of the door, not giving Ashton a chance to speak.
I headed into my car and started to drive going to NYU, I grabbed my class card in my compartment to see my schedule for today. I pulled my brows together as I see my schedule, it's a full load and the classes are in continuous sequence. I threw back the card and slammed the compartment shut. I arrived at NYU parking lot and parked at our usual parking space. I don't know, but I guess being school famous, we earned the spot in the lot to park near at the school. I leaned at the front of my car with my legs crossed. My first class in Literature had already started and I have no plans of running into it, next class will do.
I started to think about bringing Summer to the party again. I really want her to come, I looked up at the bright sky of New York, sun rays spreading at the clouds and birds flying together going wherever. I took my gaze back at the buildings of NYU. I have no idea what is Summer's school schedule for today, so I guess I'll have to bust every door until I find her class. MY thoughts were interrupted when I saw Michael's car approaching, then suddenly, an idea popped into my head.
"Hey, Cal. You're early." Michael greeted me with a happy tone as he leans at the door of his car, facing me.
"I need your help, Mike." Then his face went a bit serious as he pull his brows together.
"Help in what?"
"To find Summer." Then he sighed and laughs a little.
"Okay, I'll look around school. But I have class, I'm loaded today." Michael says.
"Come on, Mike." I beg.
"Fine, I'll call you when I see her." He smiled then he walks off to the building.
I made my way to the building where my second class will be, hoping that Summer and I will bump before I step to any classrooms. I am at my thoughts with my head up when I felt a body landed to mine and I used my arm to catch whoever's body it is, I look down and saw a blonde hair with brown streaks. She looks up at me and we are both surprised.
"Calum?"
"Summer?"
Then she stand up on her feet still surprised. Well, thank you God that I bumped her, I won't have to step at any classrooms anymore.
"Glad I found you. You're coming with me." I tell her as I grip on her wrist.
"What?!" She exclaimed looking at my hand on her wrist.
I started to walk and pull her with me but she is holding back so I am pulling her harder.
"Let me go, Calum Wayland!" She exclaims in the middle of the crowded hallway, catching everyone's attention, now we're causing a scene, she is causing a scene.
"Stop yelling!" I exclaimed.
"Where are you taking me?!' Our voices are getting louder every time we exchange words.
I stopped pulling her and finally let go of her. We are now in the end of the hallway. She holds and circles her hand on her wrist that are now really red.
"I'm sorry." I say as I look at her glaring at me.
She puts down his hands and sighed. "What now, Calum?"
I sighed and my everything drifted soft. "I really want you to come with me at the party tomorrow." I say, partly begging or whatever.
She sighed again. "Cal, I'd love to, but I can't."
"Why not?"
"I have to fix up my things. I'll be moving in the NYU dorm." Her answer surprised me.
"Really?" She nods yes. "I can help you up if you like."
"No, it's okay. My Dad and I got it already."
I reached for her hand and held it in the middle of my two hands together. "Please, Summer." I am now begging for her to come. Her eyes widened at my action.
She let's out a big sigh. "Okay, I'll go. But my outfit might not fit the occasion."
"Not a problem. Let's go." I tell her before gripping at her wrist again, I bring her with me into my car and headed at the nearest mall.
"We're gonna shop?" Summer asked as we stand in front of Zara.
"You are. I already have my outfit."
"You've got to be kidding me." I can't figure out the meaning of the tone of her voice. It feels like she is mad or whatever.
Summer shook her head side ways telling me no.
"This is too much." She tells me.
"I don't mind."
"Wow, is this what rich people do?" The sarcasm is kicking in.
"I don't know. Just go shop." I order her.
Summer's POV
We are standing in front of Zara, having this argument. I really appreciate the fact that Calum wants me to go with him at the party, but him buying me outfits in store like this is too much. The price tags at this store is fucking expensive that it will took me a month before I can buy one of their dresses. And then, here is Calum Wayland offering me to get some outfits. This guys is getting on my nerves already.
"I can't, Calum." I tell him with a low voice then I faced him. "It's too much."
He placed a hand at my cheek. "I'm willing to give you everything in my power, Summer. Please." He tells me and I melt inside.
The thought of Calum being like this to me confuses me. "Why are you doing this?"
"Because I like you, Summer." The way those words escape from his lips made me tumble in a good way inside, the way he said that he likes me made me tremble to my knees. I gave him a little smile.
"Please go and look for a dress. My parents will be there and I want you to meet them." He tells me and I nod.
We entered Zara and we started looking around, technically I did because Calum just sat at the couch in the middle of the store and watched me go around for a dress and shoes. I walked at the big store with still with the thought of Calum liking me. What the fuck did I do for him to like me? I like him too, he is something that I can't explain. My insides are tumbling at the thoughts, but I got distracted when I saw a guy with a lot of muscles glaring at me. I gulped as I look at him glaring at me, I kinda feel scared, I wanted to call Calum but my voice got lost.
"Summer?" Calum's voice jolted me up. I turned to him to see that his eyebrows are furrowed as he looks at the direction of where the creepy guy is. I turned back at the guy's place but he's gone so I looked back at Calum.
"You okay?" He ask looking at me, I nod yes. "Have you pick a dress already?"
"Yeah." Then I grabbed the black dress with a lace ribbon on the stomach part, the length is just above my knees and.
"Perfect
"Perfect." Calum says. "How about your shoes?"
"I haven't picked any yet."
Then Calum walked to the ladies' shoes sections and started to look at the shelves. Later on, he grabbed a black heels with some gold studs.
Later on, he grabbed a black heels with some gold studs
a/n: Im not really good at pairing outfits. feel free to suggest anything that will look good.
"How about this?" He asked, still holding the shoe. "They match."
"Okay, we can try that." I tell him then he handed me the shoe.
"And yeah, go to the fitting room too." He tells me and I nod.
I went to the fitting room to put the dress and shoes on to show him. I really like the dress, it's simple but beautiful in its own way, and so is the shoes. I went out of the fitting room.
"What do you think?" I nervously ask Calum as I bit my lower lip.
Calum looked at me and his expression suddenly drifted into a surprised one. He just stared at me and didn't say anything.
"Is it bad?" I ask him, feeling a bit bad.
"No." He answer then he stand up and walked to me. "It's perfect." I smiled at his words.
"We'll take these." Calum told the sales assistant.
We headed up the counter to pay, Calum slid out his credit card and paid the bill of $300, my jaw dropped at the total amount but Calum seemed to didn't care about the amount that he just wasted for me. He carried the hand bags as we walk at the mall for food.
"Hey, Cal?"
"Hmm?"
"Thanks for the outfits." I feel kinda awkward at the thought that he spent $300 for me, it's really too much.
"Anything for my angel." He smiled.
We ended up at a lunch on this fastfood and had a decent meal just like last night. Atleast we didn't eat in a fancy restaurant. Calum drove me home and I've decided to introduce him to my parents. Well, he is a friend.
"Are you sure about that?" Calum asks me and he sounds nervous at the though as his thumbs move around his steering wheel.
"Oh, is it a bad time?" I ask him.
"I'm nervous."
"Don't be."
Then I had this thought that maybe he's not just used to it so I've decided to drop the idea and he thanked me, I can see that he is really relieved. I wave him goodbye as he drives off the road. I ask Calum to keep the things he bought because my parents will freak out if they find out about this. He'll pick me up early so we could get ready for the party in their house. The thought of the party is still driving me crazy, I am nervous and nowhere excited. But being with Calum makes me hype at some point. I hope the party goes smooth for me.
