It wasn't difficult for me to become used to the Kirjan clan and my new mistress's house. She was rather kind, so I took care not to hurt her feelings since I had a poor tendency to only recall unpleasant interactions with people. I had written to my parents the day after I came, but I never heard back. I didn't anticipate one, however; I was quite content here, and no one had any expectations of me beyond doing my household responsibilities. Consequently, no one was aware that I didn't have a wolf.
Even if it hurts to think about it, I must go on with my life since, after all, I have been bestowed with talents as well. I often told myself to comfort myself.
I never returned to the residence because of the strange smell of my partner that it gave out. I actively avoided it since I didn't want any difficulty or adventure, and I was afraid that becoming an alpha's mate would bring such things to me.
"Silveen!" When I heard Lady Freya call my name, I sprang down the small tree where I had been seated and lost in my own thoughts. I quickly entered the home, picking up my maid's dress to avoid tripping over it.
Gamma's room was located upstairs, the little kitchen and living room were located below, and beneath the stairs was an empty room that instantly became mine when I got there. The only other person who helped out around the home with the gamma and his partner's lack of children was Maria, a small, chubby lady with a radiant grin who was married and often came to cook but returned to her family at night.
"Lady Freya, you called for me?" I remarked as I entered via the rear door that went past the front of my room and down the stairs to the living room, where I met the dressed-up woman. She had always been someone who wanted to learn more about me.
"You are like a little sister to me." She asked me about my childhood when I first got there and spoke to me. But because we already knew about my secret, I chose not to share it, so I dismissed her with a "it wasn't bad" remark. She didn't know it, but I liked her very much in my own way.
"Yes," she said, glancing at my attire.
"Go change into something more befitting, I have been invited by the Alpha's mother for brunch and I want you to go with me."
Her remarks caused my heart to skip a beat, and I started to shift in my seat.
"Silveen, what are you waiting for? Go on."
"Lady Freya, I haven't been feeling too well, I...."
"No more excuses, if I didn't know better, I'd say, you are avoiding the Alpha's house."
That's right, you don't know any better, I told myself, since that's precisely what I was doing and how I've been avoiding home ever since I got there. When Lady Freya requested me to accompany her, I always pretended to be unwell, for, believe me, she virtually lived there.
I was only afraid of meeting my partner, not because I didn't want to. The fact that my parents didn't love me, that none of my siblings wanted to be friends with me even though I lived with them, and that no one had fought for me while I was being sent away were all examples of the many unusual things going on in my life at the time. In fact, nothing in my life had ever been ordinary. I didn't want anything to damage the phantom life I had created here because I liked it.
Lady Freya said firmly, as though in answer to my thoughts, "You are going." I just groaned and made my way back to my little room at the bottom of the stairs.
The room was large enough for a vanity mirror with a bedside drawer below it, a medium-sized bed that was now mine in the center of the room and immediately opposite the door, and a little wardrobe that wasn't big enough to hold my possessions. Right next to the closet was a little door that led to the tiny bathroom I used.
I searched my luggage, which was positioned at the base of the closet. I had no fine clothing; the only ones I had were gifts from my siblings back at home, and they were not appropriate, particularly if it was my first time seeing him. I started examining the clothing that Lady Freya had given me in the closet.
"Who could he be?" I questioned myself as I frantically searched my room for a more appropriate attire.
I thought to myself, "I hope he is not the Alpha," even though I knew that I was probably just fooling myself. The Alpha and his mother, a lady of course, were the only men who resided in that home.
Why am I doing this? He wouldn't even give me a glance! I flung the material I had picked on the ground and said, "I am an omega for crying out loud!" in exasperation.
He is our friend! He would undoubtedly accept us.
I glanced around the room in confusion as I heard a sour voice lash out in the back of my skull.
"Now I'm hearing things."
I thought to myself as I shook my head weary, taking up the casual dress I'd tossed and getting ready to put it on immediately, opting to keep inside my position in the pack and steer clear of any form of pipe dreams. After all, the alpha could choose his mate, and it wouldn't be me. God help me, there was no way I was going to add the struggle for a guy to my problems.
I exited my disorganized room and locked the door behind me to conceal the horrifying image of the disaster I had created. When I returned to the living room, Lady Freya was grinning at me. She approached me, took a little comb out of her handbag, and started combing my unruly red hair before pulling it back into a ponytail.
I said, "Thank you, lady Freya," while pondering why she was carrying a comb.
She responded by grinning at me.
"You know sometimes, I forget that you are still just a child, come on we can't afford to keep her waiting."
I quickly followed her, stroking my nicely styled hair as I attempted to see through the bronze shield beside the entrance as she hurriedly left while clutching her blue satin dress in one hand.
I stared at my blank face for a while, thinking to myself, "Maybe I should have put on lipstick," before rushing out to meet up with my mistress.
....................
We really made the decision to stroll via the Alpha's residence since the distance there wasn't too much. Lady Freya kept busy introducing herself to the individuals we saw on the street, acting as if she was in a great mood. While Maria, a coworker at the home, was the only one I knew, I did not. I didn't stray since I didn't want to encounter him when I was searching about in some forest, so I simply stayed in the tiny tree behind the home.
And sure, he was the main idea in my head these days. After all, what else could fill the mind of a young wolf like me if not her mate, whom she was doing all in her power to avoid?
I was reminded of my surroundings and that I was at his house when the aroma of the ocean filled my nostrils. We entered the home, which on the interior resembled more of a mansion after a servant had unlocked the front door for us.
Looking attentively at the beautiful vases that were strategically placed around the room as décor and the draperies that lined the window shutters, I concluded that someone here had wonderful taste. If I didn't know better, I'd think this was a gallery or a museum of art.
As the aroma of him became stronger, I couldn't help but imagine what it would be like to live here as I inhaled deeply to attempt to control the whirling in my stomach.
It is stunning, isn't it? Lady Freya smiled at me as she closed her eyes and took a deep breath of the air, "I never seem to get enough of the beauty and calm this place gives, no matter how many times I come here.
She was accurate. This place seemed tranquil and secure in a manner that I had never experienced before, yet for some reason, it wasn't the decorations. He was here, and that was all.
"Ah. Freya, you succeeded. Good, I had worried that I would have to attend the meeting alone. As she proceeded towards us down the hallway, accompanied by a large lady who was unmistakably her right-hand maid, we overheard Luna Misheal exclaim.
"Luna". After giving the moon a good look, I bowed as Lady Freya instructed.
She had short white hair and was tall. She didn't quite have wrinkles on her face yet, but it wasn't surprising since we werewolves age slowly. She had a warrior's posture, and I'd be damned if she hadn't taken part in and won many battles. But she looked really beautiful because of the exquisite hue of sky blue in her eyes. She had the ideal appearance for a Luna, and whoever took her place would undoubtedly have to compete with it.
I reflected on how different I was from her; I wasn't as tall as most people my age, and I had no concept of what battle was or how to protect myself in a fight. She was different from me in that I had a red mane, big brown eyes, and tiny lips. She was more attractive than me in every aspect, I lamented to myself.
"I see you brought someone."
"Yes, this is Silveen, she's my new maid."
As Lady Freya presented me, I stood up and bowed to the Luna. She gave me a long, focused look before speaking.
"I have never seen you around here".
"Oh, she's from Estradol, her father sent her to me as a maid, because she is a troublesome child" responded Lady Freya. I raised an eyebrow at her comment,
Was it the justification Father gave her for removing me? How handy for him that must be.
Then you're welcome to the group," Luna Misheal replied to me, revealing a smirk.
I said, "Thank you, Luna," unable to find the words.
"Your hair, is it natural?"
"hun?" I was perplexed as I stared at her before realizing she was discussing the hue.
"Yes. The answer is "yes" and "it's beautiful." My cheeks pinkly flushed as she said.
"Thank you, Luna."
As she quickly added, a seriousness filled her voice as if she hadn't just offered praise. "You can help Mathilda around the house, while you wait for your mistress, we have some duties we'd need to attend to," Luna Misheal stated.
"But Luna, I thought we would stay in the house and chat over tea?" I could see Lady Freya loved Luna and didn't want to insult her in any way as she replied in a voice that was almost whisper-like.
No, Freya, not today. Luna just said, "Let's go," before exiting the home and striding past us. I was reminded of how I had done the same before when Lady Freya gave me a worried look before hurrying after her. Everyone must have had a person they dreaded.
"Let's go Silveen." The overweight lady, who I later realized was Mathilda, said something to me before turning around and leaving the room to go down the corridor. I moved swiftly after.
As we passed the living room in the long hallway, I couldn't help but glance inside since it was as tastefully furnished as the rest of the home, and I knew that Luna Misheal was entirely responsible for the elegance this home exuded. Just by glancing at the sky-blue straight gown she was wearing, one could tell.
Soon after, we entered the kitchen, which was next to the dining room and separated by a little door. It was the busiest kitchen I had ever seen, and I stood there in astonishment as ladies from all walks of life went about the task of preparing the evening meal. For a time, Mathilda observed the active ladies in the area.
"Hey, Eunice". She called a different lady, who was leaning slightly over a pot. Eunice approached Mathilda after turning around and grinning at her.
"What's up."
Give this lady's maid something to do while she waits for her mistress; she is Lady Freya's servant.
That was all Mathilda said before she left before Eunice had time to digest it among the chaos—or was it me? Because before I realized what was happening, Eunice had shoved a stack of tablecloths into my hands.
"Go and lay those over the dining table." She continued before blending into the group of busy ladies.
I groaned and turned around to go back the way I had come, where I entered the dining room and started to polish the enormous table's surface, which was more appropriate for a feast.
Although this was not how I had expected to spend my day, nothing in my life has ever turned out the way I had anticipated.
I had started covering the table with tablecloths, but I was so deep in contemplation that I didn't glance up when I heard footsteps leave the dining room or when they came back in.
I just thought that one of the harried maids was going about her business. I was also unaware of how overpowering his perfume had become since I could smell it throughout the whole home, with the exception of the kitchen, of course. She may have warned me of the wolf's existence if I had one.
I rapidly spun around, and I didn't even realize that the person standing directly behind me was clearly taller than me before my head slammed into their chest. My legs trembled as a thousand butterflies sprang deep inside my gut.
I held my breath for a moment as I stared at his white shirt before taking a step back and slowly turning around to face him. I knew who it was even before I glanced up, but I wasn't prepared to see a sea of gorgeous blue eyes and thick black lashes.
He looked into my eyes as if to question, "Mate?" His blue eyes clouded with intensity or was it perplexity, and I felt my pulse skip several beats.
I took a few shaky breaths as I continued to gaze into his eyes, forgetting all the motivational speeches I had heard about not seeking difficulty in my life. I bit my bottom lip as I fought the impulse to smooth a strand of his short, black hair out of his eyes as it landed on his forehead.
I'm not sure how long we were there, but I am certain that this guy recognized me just as I did him.
When I heard footsteps in the hallway, it snapped me back to reality. I started to get away from him right away, but before I could, he had his hands around my waist and was pulling me in, causing my hands to drop on his chest.
I gazed at him with wide-open eyes, unsure of how to answer or reply. My mind was empty.
"You are mine."
My knees started to give way under me as I heard him utter it almost in a whisper, but his arms tightened around my waist to keep me from collapsing.
"My mate". This time, he said while grinning slightly.
