Chapter 2

Chapter 2

The fragrance of dirt, grass, and forest fills my nostrils as I sigh in my sleep and open my eyes to find the brilliant blue sky in front of me. In an effort to recollect where I was and how I got there, I blinked twice and wrinkled my nose at the surge of perfume that made my eyes water.

My realization that I had spent the previous night here after leaving home and spending the entire day going north to get my new pack came to me at that point. I wondered what had caused me to forget that I was no longer at home or in my bed as I got up and took a glance around the woodland where I had happily slept.

I discreetly rose up and wiped the dirt off my behind since I could hear practically all of the forest's activity, including the sounds of scurrying creatures, a thousand miles away rustling of leaves, and birdsong that reminded me of the previous night. I scowled as I questioned the value of these new skills considering that all I had ever desired was to be a wolf like everyone else.

I may have been a red or grey wolf, in keeping with the hue of my now-dirty red hair. But I guess we would never know now, I mused as I brushed the mud from my hair and grabbed my rucksack, which held everything I owned. I slung it onto my back and started walking toward the Kirjan border where my new pack would soon be waiting.

I wasn't exactly sure where the Kirjan clan was, but since my father had sold me to a Gamma in that pack in order to save face after the embarrassment I had caused the family by failing to show up for my eighteenth birthday and for making it rain, ruining the joyous celebration, I had to figure out how to get there. However, all I could recall was the direction.

the north.

The entire clan didn't want me there any more than he did, and even the Alpha of our pack had instructed him to do something about me since the people were getting restless and I was now seen as a curse. The father's rejection of his younger daughter was not unique.

"A bad omen". It was said. It's not like a small kid like me could actually make it rain.

From the minute I spoke up to inform them I had never heard my wolf, I knew Father already had plans to not keep me there. His responsibilities to his Alpha, who is the Gamma of our pack, are only an explanation. Even though I was born into such a prestigious family, I had fallen in status and had been getting strange stares ever since, so I had to hurry to leave.

Without saying goodbye to either of my parents, I made the decision to depart. They never truly cared for me, so they wouldn't miss me. I'm not sure why, but I never experienced love there. I had looked forward to that night, expecting that turning would alter things, but not with them nor my siblings. Most importantly, I would have a wolf and companionship, and they would embrace and adore me.

I should have known then, but I can't help but wonder what it would have been like to really hear her voice. I suppose I will never know since she never arrived and I never even heard her voice.

Could one convert again if they didn't at the age of eighteen? I didn't know everything, but there is one thing I am certain of, and the others probably weren't either: I was not human, as they believed, and I had been given wolf instincts in place of human ones.

Since my wolf never showed up, it had to have been something else since that night was also the beginning of my increased awareness, sharper vision, and better hearing. Perhaps I changed? Even so, was it possible? My parents are both purebreds.

As soon as I heard "Border Patrols" and the gentle crunching of twigs, I instantly came to a complete halt. Oh yeah, my sense of smell had also gone from zero to one hundred, I thought to myself as their aroma flooded my nose and I realized I had crossed the pack line. These were the exact same skills that my parents possessed, but only when they were wolves.

Was this then my wolf form?

I was prepared for the stick to be stuck in my neck; I could hear them coming before they arrived, and they certainly noticed.

"Why did you trespass on our land child?"

"I am the new maid for Lady Freya, Kirjan's wife, in the Gamma. I merely want to travel through your country on the way there.

"This is Kirjan kid." A massively muscular man approaching me with only a pair of boxers startled me. In reality, he had whirled around to face me in human form.

I am Kirjan's Gamma Dilan. From where are you?

He paused in front of me and questioned.

"My name is Silveen from Estradol, and Lady Freya brought me here to serve as her maid. I told him, handing him the letter I had taken from my bag, "The Alpha sent me. He gently took it, read it, and then handed it to one of the men who had gathered around me at this point.

I don't know why, but the two werewolf clans have always gotten along. Perhaps it was because they were close neighbors and tiny in number; nevertheless, I don't care anymore because I am now serving as a slave here, or was that not what an Omega was?

The most reliable way to break a curse was to use the daughter of the Gamma of Estradiol delivered here as an Omega, but no one was going to know that.

"Let's go". We started the lengthy trip to the hamlet with two other men, and Gamma Dilan said to me while pointing to his men, who most likely returned to their stations. I followed him in silence.

"How did you come here?" said the man.

"I've always known that the Kirjan village is north of us.

However, I wasn't sure how far north. I said, "You must have a good sense of direction then". It was the first time someone had complimented me, so I was a little taken aback when I glanced up at him. He gave me a slender smile before returning his attention to the road. I turned my gaze back to the ground, unsure of how to react.

Even though their pack might be friends with ours, we are different in so many ways, and these villagers have a completely different scent and a different atmosphere, almost as if I was home; after all, it is my new home so I could relax and have a fresh start. I heard the noise from the villagers before we even got there.

"We are home." As we emerged from the woods and into the clearing, Gamma Dilan observed, almost reading my thinking, "I took the moment to take it all in, the hamlet in front of me, the running children, and the people going about their business." I imagined the Alpha lived in a huge home not distant from us.

I questioned how their Alpha behaved. Eric, who was almost a boy and two years older than me, assumed leadership when he turned eighteen, according to what I had heard. The Austan wolf pack, at the time the most powerful wolf pack in the realm, had killed his father during a conflict with them. But he wasn't killed alone; he engaged in a death struggle with the dreaded Austan pack Alpha. When Alpha Eric was only two years old, all of this transpired. I was able to conclude that he was not the Alpha of my previous clan.

"Is there a problem?". One of the men—I forget his name—asked, and I overheard him.

I saw that I had been standing there for a while looking after giving him a bewildered face. I ran after them, shaking my head, and we carried on walking.

I gasped as a seductive smell entered my nostrils as we passed the big home. I made a turn in the direction of the home and froze in place, stunned. The men also stopped staring at me in a perplexed manner.

"Is there a problem?" This time, when Gamma Dilan asked, I only stared at him with doubtful eyes.

It was distinct from the smell I could smell across the entire hamlet.

Yes, that was it. Everyone had spent their entire lives hoping to smell their spouse, their better half, or their soul match.

But why did it come from this place? What made the Alpha's home the source of it? It could not possibly be...

I shook the idea away and gave the Gamma an irate look as she was about to ask me the same question once more.

I stopped him.

"Whose house is this?"

His men exchanged startled looks as they regarded the Gamma, who only scowled at the query.

"Why? Have you been here before?

"No...... I just......"

I gave the house one last glance before getting down from my perch and coming to my senses as I recalled my place in the clan. Even if I were the Alpha's mate, which is highly unlikely. It does not alter the fact that I am now an omega and that a drama I didn't want would begin because of this.

I went in silence after the men to the house that would soon become my new residence.
