Walking loudly. Tsk!… Audra wanted to sneer out loud at him, but stopped herself. Instead, she turned to face him, a calm expression on her face, her lips curled up into a faint smile. “I am sorry, Warren, that my feet are too loud. I'll walk out silently now.“ She closed the door and limped to her room.
Audra walked straight to the bathroom, where she ripped off the remaining pieces of cloth on her body and sat in the empty bathtub.
The last time she felt that much pain was when her mother left her after finding a rich guy for herself, and her father died when she was fourteen while trying to save his chairman's grandson from a burning house.
Was I fated to experience pain all my life? Audra asked herself, leaning in the bathtub and closing her eyes.
Audra didn't know how long she had stayed there. She didn't know how she fell asleep despite her tears and pain, but an hour later, with her pain a little bit gone, she walked out of the bathtub and went to stand under the shower, where she took a warm bath.
With each droplet falling on her skin, Audra felt every inch of pain leaving her body. Thirty minutes later, now refreshed and with no pain, she pulled a dry towel from the towel rack, dried her body, and tied a white bathrobe to shield her weak body.
Before retreating back to the room for a change of clothes, she stood in front of the mirror and stared at her reflection.
She was beautiful, with small pink lips, a pointed nose, a nice jawline, big brown eyes, long natural lashes, smooth pale skin, and long hair that fell to her ass.
She trailed her gaze on her reflection, admiring her perfect body, which was curved perfectly. Most of the time, she could get asked why she chose to be a doctor when she could be a model.
Many people, along with her father when she was still young, thought that model work was suitable for her.
The truth was, Audra wanted to be a model too but decided to learn medicine instead when she met Warren seven years ago. She was admitted into a prestigious university through a scholarship and decided to change her course to something 'decent' because she knew if she were to win Warren's heart, she needed to be working in a 'clean' field.
She had fallen in love with Warren at first sight. When she was in her first year of university, Waren was in his third year.
In her second year, a mysterious old man approached her. Those who were keen enough knew him as Chairman Liam, Warrren's grandfather, and the founder of Dream Company.
He took her to the school cafe and talked to her. Among the things they talked about was that he wanted her to get married to Warren when she was done with her studies.
Chairman Liam revealed to her that the grandson her dad had saved in the fire breakout was Warren, and to repay her father's deed, he was marrying her to his family.
She didn't think much about it because, after all, she was in love with Warren when she first saw her.
Most of the time, she caught him staring at her, and she guessed that he might have been in love with her too, but he was too shy to confess.
The day of their wedding was when she realized that Warren had never loved her and that her love was one-sided. If it were not for the fact that they had already made their vows and signed their marriage certificate, she would have broken the marriage.
The next day, she paid a visit to Chairman Liam and told him that after six months, she would be divorcing his grandson because he was in love with someone else and not her.
Chairman Liam advised her not to give up so easily and to find a way to win his heart.
She tried; she did everything, but it was impossible given that was the first time Warren was stepping foot in their matrimonial home after three years of waiting. He hadn't even given her a chance to try, but he hurt her on his way in.
A cold wind passed by, causing Audra's body to tremble. Knowing that she had been standing in front of the mirror for too long, she smiled at her reflection, exposing her set of milky white teeth, and retreated back to her room.
The moment she opened her door, she tripped on something that felt like a person's leg and fell into a wall.
No, it wasn't a wall. She realized that when she opened her eyes to see if she was hurt.
“Was the dose I gave you in the kitchen not enough that you are trying to seduce me, woman?“ Warren asked, his voice as cold as himself.
Without any response, Audra stepped away from him and walked to the place where she had arranged her clean clothes and put them on. She noticed through the mirror that Warren had walked to the sofa and had sat stairing at her.
The look in his eyes was exactly the same as the one he always gave her when they were still in school, but she was not a fool anymore. She knew that was a facade and that he didn't love her like his eyes seemed. He was making fun of her.
“Why did you come?“ Audra asked her after a heavy silence. She knew there must be a reason why Warren had suddenly come back to the mansion.
“Cathy is back.“ Warren responded, his gaze fixed on Audra's facial expression.
Pain was about to cross Audra's eyes, but she quickly flashed it away, putting a smile on her face, then calmly asked, “Is she here to stay or is she paying a visit?“
Warren, who had expected to see pain flashing across Audra's face, clenched his jaw in anger.
After what Audra did to him years ago, he took an oath to avenge her, but anything he did to her seemed to have no effect.
Why was she calm after he had indicted so much pain in her?
Why was she not giving up after so long?
Why would she always make his revenge seem effortless?
The more calm Audra remained, the more hatred he had toward her increased.
“She is here to stay, and I'll advise you to leave.“ He responded coldly, his gaze still fixed on Audra's expression.
He expected her to refuse. She had been madly in love with him, and she wouldn't let him go that easily.
Audra pressed her lips into thin lines and closed her eyes to push the pain that was about to overcome her away.
Swiveling on the chair she was sitting in, she turned to face him and asked, "Warren, I know this is ridiculous, but have you ever loved me? Have you ever felt any bit of admiration toward me, or is my love one-sided?“
Deep inside, Audra knew the answer to that question, but she wanted to hear it from him because then she might be able to walk away and let him be with the person he loved.
Warren chuckled; his lips curled up in disgust. “What do you think?“ He responded with a question.
“Right? What do I think?“ Audra echoed him and turned to take off the facemask she was wearing.
After she was done with her skincare night routine, she put on her clothes and said to him, "Sorry for trapping you in my one-sided love for this long, but I promise, I'll leave as soon as possible.“
Warren seems to be taken aback by her response. What was he expecting? For her to say that she won't leave?
Why was his chest contracting in pain? Had he… No, I am just tired; that's why. He said to himself, taking in a deep breath, and then facing Audra, he replied, "Good, and make sure you leave as soon as possible, and that I don't see your face ever again!“
