Kalilah leaned against the doorframe of my office, arms crossed, that ever-present black cloth tied neatly over her eyes.
“You’re tense,” she said.
I glanced up from the desk. “You sniffing that out now, too?”
She smirked. “I don’t need a nose to know when you're wound tighter than a bowstring.”
I set the report aside and stood, rolling my shoulders. “Then what’s your prescription, oh wise warrior?”
She stepped closer, voice low and smooth. “A run. Just you and me. Out past the southern ridge.”
I arched a brow. “You planning to outpace me blind?”
“Maybe,” she said, and I could hear the smile in her voice....
