The knock came just before dusk.
Three quick raps, a pause, then two more. Not a challenge. Not a threat. But not friendly.
I rose from the bench outside the main hall, my senses already sharpening. Damon wasn’t far—he was always near when I needed him—but I motioned for the guards not to interfere.
