"I'll come check on you later," Robert's voice carried regret before he silently walked out.

Once he left, I peeked out from under the blanket. Jesse smiled warmly, "Alice, have some water."

I took the water from him and, after drinking, wiped my lips with the back of my hand. Despite his calm demeanor, my expression must have been somewhat embarrassing.

I didn't know how much Jesse had heard about the Repentance Sanctuary just now. If Robert hadn't been so aggressive, I would have buried this embarrassing past in the grave.
