Chapter Six

Alice's POV

The results of the evaluation came out quickly, showing that my psychological state was normal in all aspects. Except for one glaring exception, I had a strong aversion to Robert. This manifested as both resistance and compliance. Resistance meant that the moment Robert approached me, I would experience psychological panic, making me want to avoid him. Compliance meant that I would subconsciously obey his commands.

Such contradictory descriptions left my head spinning as I read the detailed analysis report. Robert stared at the report, as if he could bore a hole through it.

"Let's go."

Robert neatly folded the report, his expression softening.

I immediately stood up to leave, but my steps faltered, and my head felt heavy, causing me to sway and nearly fall to the ground.

"Master Robert, continuing like this will only harm her."

"Mrs. Whitman, my situation, I understand it well, and I absolutely won't harm Alice. You know that, don't you?"

"Master Robert, but you two really aren't suitable."

"Mrs. Whitman, Alice is waking up. I'll go find a doctor to avoid any further stress for her. Please take good care of her."

In a daze, I heard people whispering, and someone was softly sobbing. I struggled to open my eyes and saw that I was covered in tubes. The signals on the monitoring device brought back memories of my treatment. No, I couldn't be confined here.

I abruptly sat up and started pulling out the tubes.

"Alice, Miss, don't do this."

Mrs. Whitman, upon seeing me awaken, could tell that the IV bottle had clearly disturbed me.. She immediately held me, gently patting my back to comfort me.

"Alice, it's just some glucose and nutrients. Don't worry."

Mrs. Whitman quickly produced a beautifully prepared assortment of candies.

"Miss Alice, you fainted in the hospital due to hypoglycemia. Have some candy; it will make you feel better."

Mrs. Whitman's face displayed warmth and concern for me. I obediently opened my mouth.

The candy was so sweet that it touched my heart, and I gave a small, relieved smile.

"Thank you, Mrs. Whitman."

Seeing my improved complexion, Mrs. Whitman was visibly reassured. She gently stroked my head, her expression filled with pity.

"Alice, why do you insist on enduring hardships alone?"

"Mrs. Whitman, I'm all grown up, and I'm about to get married. I just want to live alone for a while."

Suddenly, Robert walked in, gripping my wrist tightly. Terrified of his reaction, I hid behind Mrs. Whitman.

"Mrs. Whitman, did I say something wrong?"

"No."

Robert appeared somewhat drained. He released his grip on my hand.

"Alice, from now on, I won't pressure you."

With those words, Robert left the room. It was just Mrs. Whitman and me left in the room.

Mrs. Whitman kindly advised me, "Don't be angry with Master Robert. He's doing this for your own good."

I nodded.

"Alice, are you unwell?"

Mrs. Whitman looked somewhat worried.

"I've noticed that your emotions have been unstable since your return from the sanctuary. Can you tell me what happened?"

"I'm really fine."

I remembered the treatment process vividly. Each session was excruciating, and I didn't want to go through it again.

"Here's my discharge certificate; I've brought it with me."

I took out the discharge certificate. It had the signature of the director and was impossible to fake.

Mrs. Whitman examined it carefully before saying, "Miss Alice, how about I move to your rented place? It'll be convenient for me to take care of you."

"No need."

Seeing that I wasn't willing, Mrs. Whitman didn't insist further.

After the final bottle of nutrients, Beta Eric brought me and Mrs. Whitman back to the rental house. Mrs. Whitman cleaned up the place and purchased household items before leaving.
