Matthis. Limping, I rush to him as fast as I can.
My heart is in my throat as I fall on my knees next to Matthis. His charcoal-gray fur is covered in blood and there’s a huge gash on his side. Even though he’s breathing, its shallow and faint.
“Sorry about your familiar,” David says in a pinched voice like Matthis is already gone.
“Help him.” Tears clog my throat. “You’re a healer, do something.”
“I-I can’t handle serious injuries like this.” David clears his throat. “I’ll go get help.”
