"Maggie! Maggie!... Wake up!" she tapped Maggie gently and continuously on her chest. "Do you wanna get yourself in trouble, do you?" demanded Leila.
"Leila, is that you?" came Maggie's low voice. She has been tapped back to life. She was surprised and confused at the initial moment.
"What's the meaning of this?" asked Leila as she sat beside her on the bed.
"Meaning of what?... What are you talking about?" Maggie tried to sit up, on the bed but her back ached in sharp pain, "ouch!" she gave up and remained in the laying position.
"Why the hell on earth will you abandon your chores and sneak into your room to take a nap? Are you out of your mind?" Leila raised her eyes. "Do you wanna get us into trouble?"
"I still don't understand what you are talking about!" Maggie was more confused. "How did I get here?"
"Really, girl?... You need to stop playing jokes... I'm serious right here!"
"I'm damn mean too. I don't know what you are talking about?" she glared at Leila in bewilderment amid her protest. "I don't know how I arrived here!"
"Strange!" interrupted Leila. "I don't know you as a liar so, why in the bloody hell are you making this up?... What do you mean you don't know how you got here?"
"I'm serious!" exclaimed Maggie. She inspects her head as Leila maintained a weird look at her. "Leila you have to believe me, I don't know how I got here," she persuaded Leila with a still voice.
"I see, you have got some explanations although you are acting like a weirdo right now!" Leila sneered.
"Oh, God! I'm dead!... He is gonna kill me!" screamed Maggie . She placed one of her hands on her forehead as she recalls.
"Yes, you are!...Very dead!... And think of it, you know how Kyle would love to skin you alive, don't you?.... A slow painful death is his ideal for you!" said Leila ironically, with an indifferent smile.
Pretending not to pay close attention to Leila, she continued, "I couldn't finish my chores on time because I was having a fever. He abused me and hit me so hard. I fell to the floor and lost consciousness...!"
"Then how did you get here?" interrupted Leila. "If you were having a fever and lost consciousness when Kyle hit you then, you might as well explain to me how you got here!"
"I don't know!" affirmed Maggie. "Hell yeah, I don't know any damn thing how I got here!"
Maggie sounded so real that it was hard for Leila to tag her a liar.
She looked at a small table close to where Maggie lay. "Look at these medications!" she grabbed some of them and held them up in her hands so Maggie could see them. "Alright Maggie, I don't wanna believe you are playing tricks on me but, where did you get these?"
"I have no idea--I don't know!" Maggie scratched her hair briefly, as if she was trying to recall her memory.
"What about this?" Leila held a small wet towel in her hand. "Are you gonna tell me too, you don't know anything about this?"
"Hell yeah I don't!" said Maggie.
She attempted to sit up again but was restrained by Leila's next question. "Where are you going?"
"To finish my chores before Kyle comes back to lay his filthy hands on me."
Maggie's weak voice entails she couldn't hold back her tears. She was going to burst into tears any time from that moment. She remembered how Kyle abuses her. That has always been the case ever since she arrived at the pack.
Finally, her tears began dripping.
"Clean your eyes, Maggie," Leila reached out to her and held her hands. She slowly pulled Maggie until she sat on the bed. "Look, there is no need to go back. I took care of it!"
"Oh, Leila!" Maggie smiled amid her tears. They both gazed at each other while holding hands. "How can I thank you more?... I can not thank you less." she wiped the tears coming out of her eyes with the back of her hands.
"Beat it, Maggie!... I did not do that for you only, I also did it for myself!" she forced a smile on her face as she explained. "You and I know, we will find ourselves in big trouble if you mess things up. He is gonna come for me as well." She stretched her hands more. They hugged each other for a long time while sitting on the bed.
Maggie shed more tears amid their fleeting, intense moment.
Suddenly, some footsteps were heard walking through the corridor.
They broke their embrace at one and paid attention.
"Ssshhh!" Maggie put a finger on her lips as a gesture to Leila. She tried to remind Leila of the impending danger that was about to knock at their door.
"Let me check it out," whispered Leila. She tip-toed towards the door and peeped. But, there was no one around. The strange footsteps were never heard again.
"That's strange!" she walked back to Maggie who was still sitting on the bed in absolute silence.
"Wait a minute!" began Maggie.
"What?" Leila stared at her with suspicion. "What is it this time?"
"I think I'm beginning to
remember what actually happened to me!" Maggie's eyeballs bulged in excitement.
"Remember what?.... Why are you acting strange?" Leila glanced at her.
She ignored Leila and went on to explain. "I think remember what happened...I felt his hands gently carrying my lifeless body from the floor where Kyle left me...I remember him...He brought me here...Yes! it must be him that brought me here and got these medications to heal my fever and wounds," Maggie became exuberant at that moment as she recalls.
"Wait a second! Who was that? What's his name?" asked Leila curiously. All her attention was greatly focused on Maggie .
"It was him!" continued Maggie .
"Oh, my goodness! Cut the crap, Maggie ! Who exactly, are you talking about? Your fated mate?.... You have found him?" Leila was getting impatient as Maggie lingered in her long, exciting recall.
Maggie stared at Leila, stunned. The face of her unknown helper remained a mystery. She did her best to remember everything but, failed. No matter how hard she tried. The more she tried the harder it gets.
How could she remember all that happened when she was half conscious and marred by high fever and pain?
Maggie concluded that she did not wake in her room by mere magic but, out of the kindness of an unknown helper. She felt he must be her fated mate. But who was he?
Maggie's mute state had kept Leila staring at her impatiently, as she awaits the former's response. "I'm still waiting right here, beside you, Maggie ... Have you gone crazy? Tell me, who was he?"
"I don't know!... I swear to God, I don't know!" Maggie swore.
