"Where should I look for them?" Alaris whispered as she drove the car frantically. She circled around her children's school several times. Also in their housing complex, but to no avail.
Daylight had turned into dusk. There wasn't a single clue yet. Alaris stopped her car at the side of the road. She hit the steering wheel several times with her hands. She roughly wiped away the tears that were flowing.
Alaris felt disappointed with herself. For the past 3 years she had been guarding her children so closely, never imagining that they would disappear.
Not to mention if Alaris remembered that she and her children were not ordinary humans. They are werewolves. They have their own privileges and weaknesses.
"What if my kids get hungry? They usually eat a lot."
Werewolf children grow very fast. Their physical bodies looked bigger than other children their age. Her three 3-year-old twins looked like 6-year-olds at first glance.
Alaris mobile phone suddenly rang shockingly. Alaris' hand quickly took it from the storage box beside the chair. Alaris' eyes squinted to see who was calling. An unfamiliar number appeared on the screen.
Feeling anxious, she slowly pressed the call acceptance button. "Ha-halo?"
"Hmm. Alaris, are you looking for your children?" An unfamiliar male voice was heard answering. Instantly, Alaris' heart beat faster. She was trembling as she asked where her children were.
"Where are my children? Tell me quickly!"
A long laugh was heard in response. If Alaris was so panicked about losing her three children, the man who called her was happy.
"Calm down. I'll take good care of your children as long as you do what I ask!"
The caller's words sounded casual but cruel and threatening.
"Tell me! What do you want?" Alaris urged. She secretly recorded the conversation they were having. She thought she would have evidence to track down the kidnappers.
"Firstly, you can't report to the police. You know, all your movements are monitored by my men. So, if you dare to report to the police, we will kill your children on the spot!"
Alaris shuddered in horror at the threat from Hugo, the leader of the rogue pack. Although she had never known how they were, Alaris could understand that these criminals could do whatever they wanted.
Alaris quickly racked her brains. She had to find out for sure who her son's kidnapper was. She did not want to act rashly because her children's lives were now at stake.
"Who are you?" Alaris asked stammeringly. She was really scared if her guess was right.
"You've heard of our group, the rogues? I'm the leader. Hahaha."
Alaris shrank even more. She had long heard how the wild wolf pack acted. They were a ruthless criminal group and had been known to kidnap werewolf children. Sadly, the children kidnapped by the rogues could never return!
"Please, I beg you. Free my children." Alaris pleaded with a trembling voice. She had been holding back her tears. Dealing with rogues was a nightmare for a werewolf like her.
"This time I'll be kind to you. I will release the three children as long as you give us the ransom money. I need a lot of money!"
Hugo paved the way for negotiations. Meanwhile, Alaris widened her eyes. They were asking for ransom money. How much? Was her savings enough? If it was enough, she would voluntarily give it all as long as her three children returned.
" Tell me the amount you want," Alaris bargained.
"Are you sure you can provide it? It doesn't have to be much, just 1 million dollars."
"WHAT? 1 MILLION DOLLARS?!" Alaris shrieked at the amount mentioned. It was obviously a huge amount for her. Even working for decades, she would not be able to provide that much money.
"Hahaha. How's that? Do you mind? If you can't provide that much money, then I'll make your children my slaves."
Hugo then played the sound of Alaris' children screaming. Lea was heard crying. "Mum, help us.... Mum, they're torturing us... Help!"
All of Alaris' bones felt weak when she heard their voices. A mother would not be able to listen to the moans of her children. Alaris' face instantly paled.
"How did you hear that already? I'll wait three days. Provide the money or you'll never see your children again!"
Click!
Hugo disconnected the call immediately. Alaris still wanted to talk but the opportunity was not there. Now, she could only stare blankly at the street in front of her.
"Where do I go to find that much money? I can't report it to the police either. Those rogues are really cruel criminals!"
Alaris was restless all night. She couldn't sleep at all thinking about the calamity that had befallen her. The house felt very lonely because her three children were not there.
Three years ago, Alaris decided to move to the suburbs of Elkhorn. There were no family or close friends in this place. She deliberately wanted to cut off all the stories of her past with them.
Alaris started out on her own and struggled. She got a job as a cashier in a supermarket. Not long after, her children were born, healthy and cute triplets.
Alaris's once lonely world turned into a colorful one with their presence.
Now, Alaris feels like she has been thrown to the edge of a lonely and dark world without them. She couldn't survive if she had to part with them. Especially in such a cruel way.
Alaris sat in front of her house looking up at the sky. That night, a full moon hung in the sky. Alaris' instinct as a werewolf emerged. She felt her body begin to heat up and her energy increased many times over.
Alaris already knew she would transform every time the moon was full. Usually she would disappear from home and enter the forest. She didn't want to scare her children when they saw her shift. Although someday they would eventually find out.
Soon Alaris jumped off the chair sitting on her porch and changed shape quickly. She turned into a beautiful, fluffy white wolf. Her eyes were light brown in color and were shining brightly. Very beautiful.
The shape-shifting Alaris immediately ran into the forest. However, she didn't want any of her human neighbors to see her transformation.
Alaris continued to run fast through the darkness of the forest. She headed to a steep cliff where she used to contemplate and wait for her shape-shifting to finish. Only then would she return to her home.
However, this night was different. In that place, Alaris howled her sorrow. She hoped her children could hear her voice. Faintly from her place, Alaris also heard the howls of other wolves. One idea flashed quickly in her head.
"Rudolf! He's the only one who can help me. I need to find him."
Rudolf, the alpha ruler of the territory. It had been a long time since Alaris had seen him. In fact, she had deliberately avoided him.
Alaris had walked a few steps before slowly retreating in hesitation. Her heart ached every time she remembered Rudolf. Should she now put that pain aside and ask him for help?
"I hate him so much. He has thrown me away like worthless rubbish. I don't have to degrade myself in front of him anymore." The other side of Alaris said.
However, she thought back to the fate of her children. The rogue pack had only given her three days or her children would be doomed.
Alaris shook her long mane. Her eyes were closed. She had a tough choice to make. The she-wolf then darted quickly towards the other side of the forest, where the werewolf pack was gathered.
"Alright. Just this once, I need to see him."
