Selene's Point of View

At one point, I had thought I was in control. Long ago, I had discovered that strength was not always the key to power. It had to do with influence—planning, knowing who to whisper to in the dark, and where to exert pressure.

I am now aware of how mistaken I had been as I stood in the darkened interior of the deserted lodge. The man on the other side of me said, "You're quiet." His arms were folded as he leaned against the ancient oak table, his keen eyes observing me with a hint of amusement.
