I had not expected the house to be so big.
It was truly too big for Aiden and me to live in on our own. There were high ceilings, long expanses of dark-wood floors that seemed to stretch into eternity. Fading evening light fell through the large windows and cast long shadows into the rooms as most of the furniture were covered. Earlier that day, Marcus gave me the keys; I thought he had used the word "secure," though he said it with a certain edge of relish that hinted at something more.
