Selene's Point of view
The heavy oak doors of the Steele Foundation building did little to hide the faint buzz of discussion that reverberated through the cavernous hallways. I heard Edith's voice as I passed one of the smaller conference rooms; it was authoritative, sharp, and definitely hers.
I initially believed she was addressing a staff member, but the gravelly, low response stopped me cold. It wasn't an employee. I couldn't identify the man, but there was a hint of calm threat in his tone.
Something more than curiosity sparked. Lately, Edith had started tugging threads, frequently without telling me. That was dangerous in addition to being annoying.
