Lily's Point of View

Sharp and raw, the scream ripped through the apartment. The covers tangled around my legs as I sprang awake, my heart racing. I briefly believed I had dreamed it, just another anxiety slipping into my sleep. But then it returned, scared and broken.

"Aiden."

I pulled off the blankets and ran down the hall, almost tripping as I shoved open the door to his bedroom. His tiny body was quivering wildly under the gentle glow of his night light as he sat up in bed. His eyes were big with tears and he stared straight ahead at nothing while his fists gripped the sheets.
