Lucas had a plan. I had observed him long enough to notice the change. He was constantly one step ahead of Lily and Aiden, and he was always present where he shouldn't be. I reclined in his office chair and gazed out the floor-to-ceiling window at the luminous metropolitan skyline. My mind was a maze of computations as his fingers drummed frantically against the armrest.
Lucas did well. Too good.Too purposeful. He had been making himself a part of Lily's life for months now, taking up space that wasn't his. Worst of all? He had Lily's permission.
I was not expecting a knock on his office...
