Daniel didn't even flinch. He didn't jump out of his chair, he didn't grab my wrist, and he certainly didn't beg me to stay. He just slowly picked up his Montblanc pen, tapped the edge of his financial ledger, and looked at me with cold, dead eyes.

"Try it," he whispered, his tone so flat it sent a shiver straight down my spine. "Walk out that door and go to Ethan's room, Emily. See if you make it past the front door before I have his father cancel his trust fund entirely."
