Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Maeve had already pictured she and Leo growing up, getting married and having babies together. It was such a beautiful thing to her. That she couldn't wait to get closer to him. He was nice, and she thought he would be a good father. He was nice, kind, caring, calm and collected. She knew she couldn't get him off her mind, was so used to thinking about him all the time. And stalking him from her window. She could spend all day doing that, without even letting tired. She had developed a crush on Leo at a very tender age, without even knowing what the word 'crush' meant.

Five years. It had been five years since she has had this crush on Leo. He was the only boy she had ever crush on, because she couldn't even take her eyes off him after he had been nice to her.

At that time, Leo had been like a god to her. And this had made her to develop a crush on him. He was the only boy she saw in class, the rest of the boys were rude to her. And Leo had been the only nice boy. The only nice person in her class, who didn't treat her bad like the rest of her classmates.

It was her first day of kindergarten, and she was being bullied, and had her milk spilled by these bullies. They had called her all sorts of ugly names; fat, ugly and a witch. Then they spilled the milk she had brought for lunch, and told her she wasn't supposed to drink a milk, because she was a cow. And it was cows that produced milk.

Leo had seen her crying when they left. Then he walked up to her, and stood staring at her in an awkward manner. Like he wasn't even sure of himself.

And then he tried to console her, something which made her stare at him suspiciously, before she went back to crying. And Leo had offered her his own milk instead, because he wanted her to stop crying. He didn't like anyone crying. Then he went ahead and told her that, she could have his milk, because she was crying because of her milk.

That was when Maeve finally looked at him, and noticed that he was really cute. With chubby round cheeks that she wanted to stroke lightly, and then poked with her index finger. Of all the kids, he was the most neat looking kid. Something which made her to be quite interested in him.

Leo even had a wrist watch. Something which none of the kids had. And how he had stood, staring at her, like he was unsure of himself and being there, nearly made her smile. At this, she knew she couldn't cry anymore.

"But have had a sip out of it." Leo had said, offering her a sheepish smile. His two incisors were missing, but she didn't mind. She knew she would loose hers too. She had thought about this because he seemed nice. Nicer than everyone. Different from the rest of her classmates. He was the only one who hadn't called her a fat cow, or an ugly witch.

Her eyes moved from his face, to the milk he was holding to her, then back to his face. She didn't know he was kind enough to offer her his own milk, just because she had lost hers.

Maeve kept her mouth shut, as she watched him. Scared she was going to say something that would make him hate her, like the rest of their classmates. She thought keeping quiet was better, because she didn't want him to hate her. It would be worse, because he was the only one who had shown her, an act of kindness. Then she stared at him, and saw how innocent he looked. There wasn't a look of mock or scorn on his face. He had seem so carefree, unlike the others who has stared at her with disgust.

Maeve swallowed, and maintained eye contact with Leo. Wondering if she told him she didn't need his milk, it would offend him. Because she didn't want to offend him.

"Just don't listen to them. They hit you cause you new." He told her this, with his smile still on his face. Making her suspect for a split second, if he just wanted to mock her.

It was hard to tell if he was being nice, or he wanted to treat her even worse than the rest of their classmates. Everyone just hated her. Even her teacher couldn't stop the kids from raining insults on her. She had just warn them once, and stopped. Even when the the bullying increased, she did nothing, but payed attention to the mobile phone in her hands.

None of these kids had been nice to her, so she wondered if he also, wanted to play a prank at her. He was not to be trusted right? He was already friends with all of them.
