"Where are you going to wear?" Apollo asked her when he arrived.
I showed him the dress.
He looked at her carefully as if he didn't like her very much.
"Isn't that too conservative? You look like a nun. Closed neck and almost long sleeved." Apollo said.
"It's only three-fourths." her answer.
"That's the same."
"I just thought I came out respectable."
"Yes but not out of style. But go ahead, get ready. We'll leave at seven o'clock."
She was a little discouraged when she took a bath and hairdryer her hair. Will he no longer receive praise from Ivan? Will she always accept criticism from him? She felt fat when she put on the dress that was sewn on. It was seven o'clock and Ivan was taking a bath. When she got dressed, she would have pulled her long hair in a ponytail but when she thought that Ivan might say again that she looked more like oldies, she unfolded it and just pinched it with a gold clip. Very little of the make-up she used on the face. If she's the one to follow, she doesn't want to wear make-up. Plain face powder and a little lipstick are enough for her. But as Apollo was accustomed to seeing female companions always organized, she chose to ignore her wishes.
Apollo was stunned at the door when he saw her. It makes her feel guilty again. There was fear in her questioning eyes looking at him.
"It's okay," Apollo said in a pleased tone.
"Indeed beautiful."
It's the best she ever heard from her husband.
"It's like you're still single." he's joking.
He hugged her slightly from behind. She restrained her composure. She kept standing in front of the mirror.
"Mrs. Apollo," he said while smiling at their images in the mirror.
"Get dressed. It's seven o'clock."
Apollo let go of her and went to the bed where the clothes he had prepared were. She concentrated on putting perfume on the ear while dressing it.
Aside from the time Apollo picked her up in the province, only now is she back in his car.
The aircon was on and she had already smelled a pleasant fragrance. She even looked for the source of it. She knows that it did not have an air freshener in the car. Then the scent seemed more attached to the back of where she was. A smooth scent like a woman's perfume. Did Apollo often take his woman in the car? Did she smell the scent of that perfume?
"I don't think there's any parking space," Apollo said when he saw that the front and side of the big house they were planning were full of cars. Inside an exclusive village. The guards at the gate were strict and they even said their names and who are they going to visit but he ordered them to leave their IDs. Apollo's company ID that they left on the guard.
Avery took the gift in the back seat and then got out of the car. Apollo supports her as they walk towards the gate of the big house.
"Don't mention to anyone that we broke up," Apollo said.
Avery wanted to be angry with Apollo. It makes her look like a child. Naturally, she would not tell the story about them for their images ruin. Also, it would be nice if she had a story. She also knows that in such societies, especially now that she can only meet Apollo's co-workers, only plastic conversations will happen. Just at the gate, there were greetings from Apollo. A couple about the same age as the man. Avery thinks the woman is much older than her. Her make-up was thick and she seemed to be forced to squeeze her fat body into the tight clothes she was wearing so that some parts of the clothes were bulky.
"Your wife?" the man's question was funny and seemingly unbelievable.
"Yes. Avery. Avery, he is Hans. Our accountants." funny too said, Apollo.
"Hi," she said slightly smiling.
The woman smiled at her. At once they entered the lit lawn. Avery's intuition worked again. She thinks there was a message that passed through the exchange of stares between Apollo and the one introduced to her. Many guests left the lawn according to Apollo, rarely among the women, no one would wear just like she is wearing. But sleeveless women's clothes will deepen the contour of the neck or back. She could no longer remember those introduced to her by Apollo's companions and their wives. But one thing she reads to Apollo’s companions every time she is introduced, they know something that is being kept secret from her.
"Jana, just come. We'll introduce you to someone." a man they were talking to called when she noticed a woman coming from inside the house.
She turned to what the man had called. Jana. The secretary of Apollo's boss. The novelty of the day that Mr. Andrews disgusted allegedly. The woman approached as if stunned. Avery estimated that she was less than twenty-five, only five years older than her. But with the sophistication she sees now in the woman's appearance and dress, she will surely look like a teenager who has just finished high school if they are put aside.
The woman frowned at the man who called. So do its other fellow workers' counterparts who seem to be looking forward to something happening. A showdown or scene near there. Avery noticed that Apollo was awkward looking at Jana.
"Jana, she is Avery, Apollo's wife."
Avery caught the shock in the woman's form, something unusual in two people who had only just met. It was as if somehow Jana already knew about her and seeing her in person was so shocking. She even looked at Apollo for a moment as if her eyes were accusing.
"Hi, you're Apollo's wife," she said when she recovered suddenly.
"Did he tell you about me?"
"Sometimes. But we thought then that man was a single man."
"We're all single when we're not at home," Apollo said trying to erase the awkwardness that he felt.
Those in front laughed. Jana was the only one who didn't laugh at that joke.
"And you're Jana, Mr. Andrews' secretary?" Avery asked.
"Did he tell you about me too?"
The exchange of glances by Apollo's colleagues was meaningful, Avery noticed.
"Sometimes," she said inadvertently mimicking Jana's answer earlier.
Once again, Jana's accusing look flew to Apollo's face as she apologized to stay away.
"Excuse me. I think I need a drink," she says.
There seemed to be a worry on Apollo's face as his gaze followed Jana away.
Avery saw Jana take a glass of wine from the tray carried by a waiter approaching. She turned to her husband's face and studied the expression there.
