Chapter 4 The Hypocrite

Chapter 4 The Hypocrite

Hazel stared at Betty peacefully. Her eyes were dark as night, so deep enough to see through Betty’s tricks .

Hearing it, Betty seemed to be overwhelmed: she sucked in her bottom lip; her face turned pale; her body swayed slightly… even her eyes were full of guilt and self-blame.

"Hazel!" Flora snapped angrily, and then walked to Hazel with a gloomy face, "Hazel, why didn't I know you had a cleanliness addiction?! Don’t be so rude!"

Then, turning her head, Flora held Betty's hand: "Betty, don't worry about it. You have no need to care about her! If she doesn't want to live there, you can own the room yourself!"

Betty smiled softly: "How can it be like that? Mom, Hazel is the lady in our family, how can she live in the guest room? Besides, this was Hazel's room. I have been occupying her room for so long, therefore, it’s reasonable for her get mad at me."

Hearing this, Hazel curled the corners of his lips and smiled contemptuously. How considerate!

"You're also my daughter, how can you say so? Moreover, talking about your ages, you’re Hazel’s bigger sister. You are the eldest lady of in our family and you should live in the main bedroom!"

Flora patted Betty's hand gently as a way of comforts.

"Mommy~"

Betty groaned, looked at Hazel, and asked slightly tentatively and ingratiatingly: "Hazel, please don't be angry. If you don't like it, I'll have someone redecorate the room, do you think it okay?"

Kevin suddenly said, "That's it! Hazel is temporarily staying in the guest room, and will move in after the decoration is finished."

Hazel stuck out his tongue, smiled mischievously, and said, "Okay! Then I'll go take a shower first!"

Lying on the bed, Hazel's smile slowly disappeared until it disappeared, it was freezing cold!

Rude ? The lady of the family? She’s alive and have wholesome of limbs? What do they admittedly loath her, even to find another "daughter" to take the place of her? Hazel closed her eyes tightly, trying to get rid of these messy thoughts. When she reopened her eyes, she had calmed down a lot.

Hazel was still tired from that disturbed night, and only after taking a bath did she feel a lot refreshed.

Then, she went downstairs. In the dining room, the food was all ready on the table. Kevin sat upright, while having Flora and Betty sitting each of his side. Then, Betty stood up, personally served Kevin and Flora a bowl of rice respectively and handed them chopsticks. Every action seemed to tell that she was a very considerate and thoughtful girl. The atmosphere there was so harmonious and beautiful. From far away, they looked like a happy family!

"Hazel, come here~ the dinner is ready. I made your favorite braised pork. I learned this from mom by the way. It tastes the same way as mommy did."

Betty saw Hazel first, hurried over and kindly pulled Hazel towards the dining table.

Hazel sneered. Is she showing off? Hazel recalled her childhood when she hasn’t been sent away, Flora always beat her or scolded her. She’d never taught her anything.

How considerate Betty is, how could she not know?

"Hazel, just sit next to Daddy." Betty initially sat next to Flora as she said that, seeming that she knew to behave modest while living under somebody else’s thumb. Seeing this, Kevin and Flora’s faces was beaming with satisfaction.

"It's doesn’t matter where to sit. Sit down at table here." Flora smiled and patted the back of Betty's hand. Before Hazel came back here, Betty was used to sitting on the other side of Kevin.

"Mom, I made your favorite pineapple chicken nuggets. This time, I’ve specially added sesame seeds in it. It's fragrant. Have a try." Betty took a piece of chicken and placed it into Flora's bowl, which made Flora smile like a blooming flower.

Hazel looked at the bowl of Kevin. A bowl of fish soup had long been served in front of him. Well, it seemed that Betty remembered everyone’s taste here clearly.

"Hazel, why are you wearing such a dress?" Flora turned to Hazel, frowning, as if she didn’t notice it until now.

Hazel asked suspiciously, "What's the matter with my dress?"

It was a pale wash long dress with a lifelike butterfly motif flying on shoulder, which was obviously a patch made from shabby! She just thought that cheap clothes fit her well!

Flora set her eyes at Hazel with a complicated look: "What are you wearing?! You can buy some decent clothes?! Are you doing this on purpose just to annoy me?"

Hazel smiled indifferently with a slight sarcasm in her tone: "What's wrong with it? This is the best and the most expensive dress in my closet! Who doesn't want to dress up beautifully? I got no money. How can I buy those pricy clothes? "

Suddenly, there was a snap!

Flora slammed her chopsticks on the table hard, staring at Hazel angrily, "We’ve sent you lots of money every month! No money?! Where did you still spend all of them?"

Kevin also looked at Hazel with a puzzled face.

Betty grabbed Flora's hand, patted her lightly and said, "Mom, don't be mad. There must be some misunderstandings here. We’d better listen to Hazel's explanation first."

"I got no idea about where the money flow to. I didn't get even a penny anyway!" Hazel frowned. Why Flora put on a puzzled look? According to what she just said, it seems that she’d sent her living expenses every month.

"Every month I would send an amount of money to Alicia’s account. If that didn't come to you, how could you grow up and go to college?"

"Oh! Alicia! She solely left me three steamed buns every day, enabling me to barely survive and wouldn’t starve to death. As for the tuition fees, I can earn it myself! City Bo is a small place, but I’ve worked triple or quadruple jobs a day to cover the tuition fees and living expenses." Hazel talked about it in a casual and indifferent tone. This is exactly how her life is all the time.

For a moment, the hall became silent and solemn.

The daughter of the their noble family only eats three steamed buns a day? And even has to work hard every day at such a young age? That’s why she is so slim?

"Hazel, is this true?" Kevin's face went gloomy, asking in an unpleasant tone.

"You don't believe me? Look at my hands yourself!" Hazel stretched out her hands to Kevin just like a child trying to tattle something to him. Sure enough, there were obvious calluses on her palm.

Flora turned to Betty in surprise.

"How can it be possible?" Betty showed an incredible expression and said, "Mom, since you handed over family affairs to me, I have been taking care of every detail seriously, especially those concerning Hazel. The money is transferred by you personally. Alicia also calls back to us every month to report the situation..."

Betty has been learning to manage affairs at home after she entered the university. She’d always been taking care of everyone in the family, behaving well without making any mistakes… she is indeed a competent housekeeper!

"Dad, Mom, if you don't believe me, I'll call Alicia right now to confront the truth." Betty's eyes turned slightly red as she stood up anxiously.

"Betty, dear Betty, sit down first. I'll find what's going on here." Flora took Betty’s hands and stroked her head soothingly, simultaneously looking at Hazel with distrust.

She would rather trust an foster daughter rather the biological daughter? Ah! Indeed, Flora has always been like this!

"Hazel, just eat more." Betty took a chopstick and put the braised pork into Hazel’s bowl, looking like a considerate sister.

Hazel looked up, seeing Betty was smiling at her. She has already in a bad mood, and now, Betty’s smile making her much more dazzling.

Hazel has lived outside, away from home for twelve years, and thus, her temperament has long since become much savage. Betty's slightly provocative smile clearly angered Hazel, irritating Hazel to provoke Betty again! Hazel just said that she has a cleanliness addiction…

Living in City Bo for twelve years, Hazel had learned to play things by ear.

Raising her eyebrows, Hazel started to eat the braised pork, chewed it and said, "Well, the heat is still a little bit over, and… there’re too many gingers, but… overall, it's okay."

Betty squinted her eyes, but instantly put on a humbly accepting look, and replied, "Ok, I've written down all of your suggestions, and I'll make it better next time."

Suddenly, Hazel said, "Oh, by the way, I am obsessed with cleanliness!" she behaved as if she had just realized it. Turning her head to Betty, Hazel winked and said, "But this contains your sincere heart, so I didn't spit it out."

Betty didn't know what Hazel meant. Whether she was meaning literally or trying to imply that she would have spitted if it not for her regard?. Is she saying that if it weren't for her intention, she would have spit out the meat long ago?

Betty was embarrassed, presenting that she was suffocated. Flora finally couldn't stand it anymore, and said, "Done. Let’s eat first. Didn't Alicia teach you not to talk while eating?"

Hazel pouted. Of course no! But she didn’t say it out!
