#Chapter2
“I’m here to see the kidnapped Elite.”
I say as I bow down to the ruler of the invisible city, he’s known for his harshness and reckless behaviour, though he’s never been reckless enough to put the invisible city at risk and now, he has gone and done it.
Every couple of years, we, humans, vote for a new ruler, one that we deem suitable for the job to take care of everything within our city and keep us safe. So far it’s worked out so good, that was until Mike was voted as our ruler, though he is strong, clever and resourceful, he is quite barbaric, thinking violence will solve things, he does not aim to form a truce with the Elites, instead, he wants to get rid of them knowing full well that that would be an almost impossible process.
The Elites are much, much more powerful than us humans, they are smarter, have better technology and then there’s that fact that they almost wiped out humanity during the first war we had with them. I didn’t want to provoke the Elites, for now, they weren’t bothering with trying to locate our invisible city but if we were to do something as reckless as stealing one of their kind, they would come running and I wasn’t sure if the humans were ready for that.
“And why do you want to see our captive?”
Mike breaks me out of my thoughts as he narrows his eyes down at me, reading my facial expression and body posture to try and detect danger. He knows very well that I am good at freeing people and I’m sure he’s worried I would try and free the Elite captive.
“Should there be a reason? I have never saw one up close, I’d like to study this Elite.”
I lied. Though it was true, I had never saw an Elite up close, I wasn’t here to study the Elite, I was here to try and figure a way to release our captive before things got too out of hand.
“Very well. Follow me.”
Mike says and I oblige, following him through the maze of a building we’d built to keep our ruler safe, should an attack ever be brought upon our invisible city.
Thankfully, Mike bought my lie about wanting to see the Elite up close, the only reason why a human would be curious to see an Elite face to face is because over the years, as we grow, we are taught about them in school, we are taught about all of their strengths and weaknesses, their powers, what they eat, what they don’t eat, how they function and whatnot.
Back in the day, the remaining scientists were able to capture a dying Elite and they were then able to run tests on them, do their research and find out as much as they could.
Much like humans, Elites look very similar to us, the only difference we have in looks wise is that Elites are much, much taller. You won’t find any Male Elite shorter than 6.5ft and you won’t find a female Elite shorter than 6ft. Most male Elites go up to 7ft and above, though the females are considered shorter. They don’t have an iris, instead, their entire eye socket is black, like a void circling the sclera in their eyes. They have two brains and two hearts. They can breathe under water and their senses are much more evolved than ours. They can see through the dark as though it is day. They can hear things much further than humans, and same for their smell. They also have some extra senses, for example, they are able to sense someone’s presence before that person come into their view. There’s still so much we haven’t discovered about them that the scientists are still working on, though we never wanted to kidnap any of the Elites unless they were dying or in need of our help, we were afraid that we’d start another war or risk our city being discovered and now, Mike has gone and risked it all.
Watching the steel door slide open as Mike pressed the palm of his hand on the scanner, the open door now reveals a large solid room filled with steel walls. Clearly, this room was built specifically for Elites, strong enough so that they couldn’t break the walls or doors down and escape as their strength goes far beyond that one of a human.
“Do not take too long. She might bite.”
Mike chuckles at his own statement as he steps away from the room while I step inside it, hearing the door shut behind me, I steadily walk towards the girl that is restrained to the wall. Her wrists and ankles spread out, they’re clasped tightly to the wall, her head has fallen on her shoulder with her long white hair covering her face.
I feel sick to my stomach the closer I get to her, she is fully naked and shes completely beaten and bruised. Though the Elite’s can heal much, much faster than humans, if the injury is severe enough, it’ll take them a while longer to heal and of course, humans created a drug that when injected to an Elite, it will weaken them down and thus, their healing process becomes almost slower than a humans. They created this drug should they ever have to use it against the Elites if it came down to another war or an experiment but I thought it was wrong of them to do so. And the reason why I say ‘they’ and not ‘us’ is because I don’t want anything to do with preparing for a war. It’s no use. Had the humans being kind enough to let the Elites live among us when they were in need of a new planet to make their home, none of this would’ve happened. All I’m searching for is peace and I believe that one day, one day we can all get along and live together without this constant battle of outdoing each other.
Reaching out and running my finger through the girls face, I brush aside her hair to reveal a beautiful young girl. She seems to be around my age, though, I know that Elites live over thousands and thousands of years but stop ageing at a certain point, each one is different I guess.
She flinches as tries to back away from me but there’s nowhere else for her to go as the wall is right behind her and she’s stuck to it.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t meant to scare you.”
I whisper as step away from her, letting her know that I was not here to harm her and she seems to calm down a little as she studies me just as I study her.
My heart breaking as I look over her broken form, they have tortured her, I know it. I can see it. And the fear in her eyes confirm it all. I know that this will get me in trouble but I can’t stand here and watch her suffer in pain and so, I begin to unclasp her from the wall, supporting her fragile frame, I let her lean on me as I help her limp towards the bed on the far corner of the room, laying her down and wrapping a blanket around her cold body, whisper soothing things to her as I promise her, that soon, soon I’d help her out of there.
“I’m not like them, trust me, I’ll get you out of here.”
And with that, she smiles a soft, gentle smile at me but then her face contorts into worry, concern.
“What? What is it?”
I ask her, afraid by her reaction.
“You need to get me out of here before my brother gets here, he’s going to come and find me and when he does, he will slaughter each and every single one of the humans. He will have no mercy. Please take me out before he gets here otherwise your species will come to an end.”
She begs as tears roll down her eyes, it’s almost as though she’s more concerned for us humans than she is for her own well being. Even when locked up in this prison of hers, being tortured, she’s looking out for the human race. Just who is this girl?
“Of course, I will do my best. What is your brothers name?”
I look at her, curious as to who exactly I had to be on the look out for as she responds;
“Seven.”
