#Chapter4

Blur.

Hazy.

Fog.

Blinking several times, I open my eyes with an effort until the ceiling comes into view, a very luxurious looking ceiling, black chandelier decorating the centre of the ceiling, the light is dim and dark, shining a glowing light to the patterns on the ceiling, I rub my head in discomfort as the throbbing keeps me from closing my eyes again and giving into the darkness that I had just awoke from, that is until I realise that I am somewhere that is not within the safety of the invisible city and then… flashing images of Seven’s shadow interrupt my memory as I remember him abducting me just after he injected something into my arm.

Jumping up, I try my best to get out of bed but I am slumped over, falling to the floor, I can barely hold up my weight as I sluggishly try to gain my balance only to fail. Realising that walking is no use, I drag my body across the floor, crawling to the open door, I am astounded by how heavy my limbs feel, whatever he injected into me was still having its affects and I didn’t know how to make it go out of my system any quicker. Instead, I crawl out of the door way and find myself in a large hall way, at the end of the hallway I can just about see what seems to be a living room, the floors are black laminate with black stone walls, this place is all too gloomy with its black decoration but it looks elegant nonetheless.

Just where had Seven brought me to?

Crawling towards the living room until I’m laying just on the living room floor, it takes me a moment to catch my breath as all of the energy leaves my body, leaving me to just lay there crippled on the floor but when I lift my head, I come face to face with a beautiful view in front of me.

A shirtless guy laying on the sofa with a dog in his arm, he’s looking at me intently, probably amused by the fact I had just crawled all over his floor.

Could this be…

“Seven?”

I breathe out as I lay my head back down, trying to erase his image out of my head, his body looked too godly to be a human, he was surely an alien and of course, the black sclera of his eyes informed me that he was indeed an alien and that he was indeed, Seven.

Ignoring me, he gently puts the dog down and strides over to me, standing above me all tall and proud, he studies my fragile form, tilting his head to the side as he takes in the awful sight of me before he reaches down and scoops me up into his arms, picking me up. I would try and protest but I have no energy in me to fight this guy and so, I let my body lay in his arms as he swiftly carries me to the sofa and lays me down on it, once again, standing above me as he eyes me down, almost as though he’s analysing me.

“Where is my sister?”

Is all that he says, his voice deep, robotic like. He speaks in a very dull and robotic way, I had barely heard an Elite speak before and Rue was the only Elite I had an actual conversation with, she too had a robotic way of speaking, I wondered if it was just an Elite thing.

“Where is she?!”

He growls at me as he leans down and grabs my jaw in his death grip, pulling my head up slightly to look at him straight in the void that was swimming in his eyes. Mustering whatever energy I had left, I try to form the words to respond to him.

“I know where your sister is but I’m afraid I can’t take you to her, however…”

And before I could finish off my sentence, he slams his hand on the sofa, making me flinch away from him as I study the anger raging behind the darkness in his eyes, his veins are pulsating on his neck and his forehead and I am afraid if I say another word he might just strangle me to death.

“WHERE IS SHE?!”

He yells once more, this time, he’s yelling mere inches away from my face as he’s bent over, looking straight into my eyes as one of his hands goes around my head and grabs a fistful of my hair, yanking it back, moaning out in pain, I try to reason with him,

“Please, if you let me go, I will do my best to help her escape and bring her to you.”

I rush my words out before he lands another blow to the sofa, god his death grip on my hair is strong, I don’t think he realises just how strong his grip is on my hair, I don’t think he even knows that he overpowers me by a lot since he’s an Elite.

“Give me her location.”

He speaks his words carefully, as though he’s trying to form the right sentences, I’m pretty sure he’s not too perfect at speaking English, of course he must have his own alien language, I wonder, did he already know how to speak English before he came to our world or did he learn it over the years of living here?

“I can’t do that but I can…”

And again, before I could finish off my sentence he smacks the sofa once more, this time so hard that the sofa actually tears apart under his strike. Shocked and afraid for my life, I take in a deep breath as I try to sit up but he yanks on my hair and pulls me back down onto the now broken sofa.

“I know you’re stressed out right now, let me help you get your sister back, I just can’t tell you where she is at.”

I’m afraid that if I tell him the location of the invisible city, he would go in there and tear apart any remaining human, as much as I want to help Rue out of there, I can’t give her location up to him. He’s clearly murderous and if his eyes fall on the sight of her, I have no doubt on my mind that he’d go on a killing rampage for what Mike has done to her.

Ignoring my words, he brings his arm up to land another slap but this time, not to the sofa, he’s aiming straight for my face and so, I close my eyes as I yell out,

“RUE WOULDN’T WANT YOU DOING THIS.”

And with that, I get ready for his hand to come crashing down on my face but instead, I’m left with nothing, no movement, just a brief silence and so, I hesitantly open my eyes and see his furious features soften at the mentioning of his sisters name, letting go of my hair, he takes a seat on the sofa beside my head.

“You know her name.”

His voice barely a whisper, I can see the conflict behind the void in his eyes, I can see the hurt in his soul, he’s aching for his sister, he’s hurting for Rue.

“I have spoke to your sister Seven, please, let me help her. I can’t do that if you’re holding me hostage here.”

As if considering my request, he softens up for a moment, just a moment before his body stiffens up again and he looks at me with death behind his eyes, anger lacing through his face, he stands up and grabs a fistful of my hair, dragging me off the sofa and down the hall, he throws me into the room I had first awoke in as he stands in the doorway with his eyes on nothing but me.

“You will not leave until I have my sister back you pathetic human.”

And with that, he slams the door shut, locking it behind him, leaving me to the mistake Mike had created for me.

For my actions, Rue had been punished and now due to Mike’s actions, I was being punished.

I guess, that’s the irony of it all. Butterfly effect...
