CHAPTER TWO
LISA's POV
The sharp pain pierced through my stomach, and I could not find the perfect word to describe what it felt like—ramping, stabbing, aching, throbbing, tightening, burning. I let out a scream, crouching.
With each agonizing contraction, I clung to the hope that someone, anyone, would hear my cries and come to my aid. But the guards remained indifferent, their footsteps echoing in the distance as they carried on with their duties, oblivious to the agony unfolding just beyond their reach.
"Help! Please, someone help me!" I screamed, my voice raw with pain and desperation. But my pleas fell on deaf ears, swallowed up by the silence of the night.
And then, in a rush of distress and release, it happened.
With a primal scream tearing through my throat, I felt the life within me finally break free, a tiny cry echoing in the stillness of the room. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I cradled the newborn in my arms, my heart overflowing with a love so fierce it felt like it might consume me whole.
But there was no time to revel in the miracle of new life, no time to bask in the warmth of motherhood. For even as I held my precious child close, a cold chill washed over me, the realization sinking in that our fate was still in the hands of those who held power over us.
"What's that?" one of the guards exclaimed, his voice tinged with surprise as he hurried to investigate the source of the commotion.
"It sounds like a baby," another replied, his tone uncertain as they exchanged a wary glance.
Without a moment's hesitation, they rushed into the room, their faces a mixture of shock and confusion as they took in the scene before them.
"Get the midwives!" one of them barked, his voice tinged with urgency as he turned to his companion. "Hurry!"
And just like that, help was finally on its way, the sound of footsteps fading into the distance as they rushed to fetch the midwives who would tend to me and my newborn son.
But even as relief washed over me like a cool breeze on a scorching day, a new wave of fear crashed over me, threatening to drag me back into the depths of despair.
For I knew that Draco would come, drawn by the cries of his newborn son, his presence a reminder of the harsh reality of our situation.
Sure enough, he appeared in the doorway moments later, his face a mask of determination as he strode into the room, his eyes fixed on the child cradled in my arms.
"What's going on here?" he demanded, his voice cold and commanding as he approached me.
"It's our son," I whispered, my voice barely above a whisper as I watched my angel sleep beautifully, oblivious to the torrents of this vile world.
Draco took long strides towards me, holding out his hands, his brows furrowed slightly, his eyes trained on our son.
"Please, Draco, don't take him from me." I clung to the child, unwilling to let him go.
But my words fell on deaf ears as Draco tore the child from my arms, his grip like iron as he cradled the newborn in his arms.
"He's a boy," he muttered, a hint of satisfaction in his voice as he examined the child. "Just like his father."
And then, without a backward glance, he turned and left, leaving me alone once again in the empty darkness of the slave quarters.
"No, Draco, please," I pleaded, my voice barely above a whisper. "He's mine. Please, don't take him from me.”
Heartbroken, I could only watch helplessly as he disappeared into the night, taking my son with him and leaving me with nothing but the empty ache of loss.
But even as despair threatened to consume me, a new wave of pain washed over me, bringing with it a sense of urgency that cut through the numbness that had settled over me.
As the second wave of contractions wracked my body, I gritted my teeth against the pain, knowing that I had no choice but to endure. The midwives hovered around me, their faces etched with concern as they prepared to assist with the birth.
Twins, I had twins.
"I-I can't," I gasped, my voice barely a whisper as I fought to push through the agony. "Please, don't tell Draco. He can't know.”
The midwives exchanged a glance, their eyes softening with compassion as they nodded in understanding. "We won't," one of them reassured me, her voice gentle as she reached out to offer a comforting hand.
With the last vestiges of my strength, I pushed through the pain, drawing on reserves I didn't know I had as I brought my second child into the world. But unlike before, there were no cries of joy, no sense of relief. Only exhaustion and a bone-deep weariness that threatened to consume me.
With trembling hands, I wrapped the newborn in a piece of cloth, cradling them close as I carefully placed them in the far corner of the room, away from prying eyes and unwanted attention.
My heart was heavied with sorrow and fear as Vivian appeared at my side, her eyes gleaming with malice.
"You know, Lisa," she began, her voice dripping with disdain, "I've never been one to see eye to eye with Draco."
I felt a knot form in my stomach, sensing there was more to her words than just casual dislike. More over, this was Vivian; the girl who has done almost everything in her power to take my place as Draco’s wife.
"What do you mean?" I asked cautiously, frowning.
Vivian smirked, enjoying the discomfort she was causing. "Oh, you know, just never been a fan of the guy," she taunted, her tone laced with sarcasm.
My anxiety grew as she continued to dance around the truth. "But why bring it up now?" I pressed, trying to keep my voice steady.
With a wicked glint in her eye, Vivian finally revealed her dark intentions. "Because, Lisa dear," she hissed, her voice dripping with venom, "my family used to run this pack before Draco's took over."
Fear gripped me as the pieces fell into place. "You can't be serious," I gasped.
Vivian's smile turned sinister. "Oh, I'm dead serious," she declared, her tone sending chills down my spine. "And I won't rest until I've taken back what's rightfully mine. And now, with the birth of your child, my hatred for him has only grown stronger.”
My blood ran cold at her words, the implications sinking in like a lead weight in the pit of my stomach. "What do you mean?" I whispered, my voice barely a whisper as I clung to the tiny bundle in my arms.
Vivian's lips twisted into a cruel smile as she revealed the dark truth of her lineage. "My great-grandparents were the rulers of this pack before Draco's family overthrew them," she explained, her voice laced with bitterness. "And now, I will stop at nothing to reclaim what is rightfully mine.”
I was lost for words, unable to understand the sudden change in behavior.
“I will end everything! Everyone! I started with the Alpha, now watch me wipe out his entire bloodline.” A devilish smile spread across her lips.
I recoiled in horror, my mind racing with the implications of her words. "You can't," I pleaded, desperation creeping into my voice as I begged her to see reason. "Please, spare the child. He's innocent."
But Vivian's gaze remained cold and unyielding, her resolve unwavering. "I'm sorry, Lisa," she said, her voice as cold as ice. "But I can't let him live. He's a threat to my accomplishments.”
With a sinking heart, I realized that my pleas weren't heard. And in that moment, as the weight of her words settled over me like a suffocating blanket, I knew that I had to act, and act quickly, if I had any hope of saving my children from a fate worse than death.
