I close the front door behind me and glance hopefully into the lounge.

Maybe today, things will be different.

"Hey, Kelly,"

"Hello, Ruby."

My heart sinks. His voice is cold, and he turns away, not looking at me. It's been two weeks since he got back, and things between us are still horrible.

He looks at me like I'm betraying him every time I leave for work.

"I try again. "How was your day?"

"Fine, thank you."

I wince. We could cut the tension in the air with a knife. "I was thinking of making steak for supper."

"I've already eaten, thank you."
