Stormy-Rein
I made my way into Best-Bite that same evening after my encounter with the rude lawyer. After I had alighted from his car, I took a cab to Best-Bite.
It was one of my favorite restaurant. The atmosphere was always cool and lovely. Plus taste of food was like heaven. It was the second place that made me feel at comfy.
There every one minded his or her business because they were after the delicious taste of their delicacy.
Food at Best-Bite was at a very affordable price, that was the main reason I chose it as my favourite.
I slumped on a chair, not too far from the kitchen entrance. That was my favorite tabletop. I watched as the heavy fans hung the celling spun lazily, decreasing the smell of varieties of mouth watering meals. And it made me forget about the rough day at work, relaxing my insides.
A waiter rushed to my table to take my order, when he spotted me snatching my glasses off, and dumping it on the table top.
"Good evening ma'am, can I proceed with your order?"He inquired.
"The menu on page four."I said, throwing a glance up at him, from the menu book in front of me.
"Two chicken apple pie, potatoe chips, peppered gizzards. A full bowl of fruit salad, spring rolls, hot dogs and one tube of ice cream."
His eyes lit in surprise.
"What?"I questioned, grinning sheepishly. Because the look he gave me read 'Are you sure you can handle all of that?'
Although, I ate a whole lot of food, I had only little flesh attached to my bones. I knew the waiter was wondering why a skinny young lady like me would order for such a meal. But I was certain he knew, some of us in life, weren't destined to add flesh no matter what we eat.
"Nothing ma'am, I'll be back shortly with your order."
I nodded, and he left with a tiny sheepish smile titling at the corners of his mouth.
After my encounter with the rude lawyer who had ruined my mood and my chances of meeting with Rachael, all I needed was to eat a great deal of food to quench the fast rising mood swings in me. Although I ate a lot, but I normally ate times two of the usual when I was having mood swings.
The waiter returned with the food few minutes later.
I paid my bill through the automated teller machine, before then digging into the food. I always paid my bill before eating because I didn't want to risk not having cash with me after eating. Which would result to me working as a dishwasher girl for a day or two.
Since it happened to me, some years back.
I was digging into the my meal ravishiously and moaning in ecstasy, when a young couple walked in, and made their way towards my table.
Well, it was alright. The tables were getting occupied and the chairs were getting filled up.
The couple took their seats opposite mine, with a little boy of about two or three years of age.
I murmured my greetings to them without casting my eyes away from my food. The waiter came to take their orders, in no time, they were eating and involved in a heated dialogue.
Just then, the lady spoke.
"Young lady, you're one hell of a glutton. I can't believe you're eating all of that."She exclaimed, and I could detect a hint of irritation in her voice.
This statement got me pissed. I despised people interfering into my affairs a whole lot. She might be with her husband and son, but hell, I wouldn't welcome embarrassment yet again, for the second time in one fucking day. And I'f talk back in a high pitched voice so she'd learn to keep her big mouth shut.
I jerked my head up to glare at her, before putting her in her place. But couldn't because of how beautiful she was. Sthe was so angelic looking that I couldn't say the words I had in mind to say. She was like a goddess. I wondered if such people existed.
Her husband was dangerously handsome. And their son. Well, I'd say he took after his mom's softer features.
Plus I noticed the lady was heavy with child.
I stared at them curiously, wondering if they were humans or angels.
"I'm...I'm just hungry."I stuttered, dropping the idea of raining insults on her.
She broke into a smile then placed her bloated sweaty hand on mine. And I suddenly had this feeling, that we were going to be great friends.
"Forgive my bad manners, I just wanted to get your attention. You refused throwing a word on two, into our conversation. And it was odd. You looked kind of depressed, like you hate company. And again, you are eating all of that." She nudged her head towards my food.
I stared at her blankly. And how the hell was I supposed to contribute into what was no damn business of mine. When I was fucking eating? I would tag that even worse than meddling.
Some humans though. I muttered under my breath then returned my eyes to her husband. He was trying to control their rowdy son.
"I'm Molly by the way. Over here is my husband, Blake. And this our son Cody."She introduced, placing her forked down, as she beamed at me.
I mirrored her expression. That was the first smile I had had that day.
"Handsome boy you've got here."I nudged my head towards their son, swallowing the remains of the food in my mouth.
"Oh, thank you. What's your name?"
The sudden idea of lying to her, popped in my head. But, no. I couldn't lie to such a lady who had won my heart with her beauty, uniquely wonderful personality, and joviality.
"Stormy-Rein..Stormy-Rein George."I told her, digging into my tube of ice cream, and watched as her eyes lit up in amazement.
"Well, this is just great. A nice name for a pretty girl. Which suits your look. I mean, look at you. You've got the big wide eyes, red lips and a cute tiny button nose."She then pressed Blake's hand in surprise. The action made the poor man to spoon-feed their son's nostrils, instead of his mouth "Oh my gosh...she's got dimples!"
"Fuck!"She cussed out loudly, on seeing what had happened to her son. Meanwhile, Blake was soothing a crying Cody, told his wife not to repeat anymore bad words, and laughed when an old couple at our side, stared at Molly in displeasure.
I blushed. Did she just rain compliments on me, or It was all me, having the illusion?
On my two decades, and six years on Earth, I had never been called pretty. Because I dressed like a boy, I was addressed as handsome since childhood. Living with six boys from the age of seven, made me look like one.
"I just want baby Pearl to look like you."She said caressing her protrude stomach, give me another genuine smile.
I couldn't hide the happiness that I felt spreading across my face. A lady wanted her unborn child to look like me.
I smiled. I smiled again.
"I kinda like you, Stormy-Rein."Molly said shoving me out of my thoughts."and I want us to be great friends."
"Are yoou for real?"I questioned, stunned.
"Yes, I am. Please don't say no."She pleaded, giving me huge baby blacks. And I bit back a smile.
"Why should I? id love to be your friend Molly."I couldn't disguise the happiness in my face and tone.
On the other hand, Blake was just staring at us, his eyes dancing in amusement.
And Molly beamed, took hold of my hand, then caressed it.
She was a little bit chubby which I knew was a result of the pregnancy.
After exchanging contacts and addresses, we ate and conversed for a while.
When I was done eating, I stood up from my seat to leave but couldn't move. Because I was overfilled from the food which I had eaten.
Molly's husband Blake offered to pay my bills, I told him not to worry, that I had taken care of the bills earlier. The way they were dressed and their well polished English, it was obvious they came from a very wealthy home.
"Sweet, I think Stormy-Rein eats more than a pregnant lady. Don't you think so?"Molly said giggling as, she brushed her husband's hair backwards. Something which adverted me from my thoughts.
"Yes, she does. She consumes more than you Since that's what you're indirectly asking me."Blake replied, looking lovingly at her, then turned to caress the back of their son's head. Little Cody had fallen asleep and was carried by his father.
Molly slapped Blake playfully on his arm.
I broke into a smile, because I knew nothing about love, and marriage, but apparently they were in love.
I decided to inform them I was about taking my leave.
"We'll drop you off."Molly suggested.
"No, you definitely don't have to do that."I fidget my hands uneasily "I'll just take a cab and head straight home."I faked a smile. And Molly frowned at this.
"I insist, it's late."she turned to Blake. "Honey, hope you don't mind?"
"Not at all."He replied.
I mentally face palmed, because things were getting a little bit too fast with Molly. And I wanted things to go on slowly between us. I wanted us to b great friends, but I wanted our friendship to develop on a gradual process. Since I had never had any female friend before. Aside that, I didn't want her to drop me off at my house, right on the first day of our meeting. I couldn't settle with that.
"Maybe some other time."I finally spoke. And Molly, on seeing how headstrong I was being, gave in.
"Alright then. Give me a call when you're home. "She said, with deep concern in her eyes.
"I will, goodnight. It was nice meeting all. And I had a great time."
Molly stood up from her chair and hugged me with her protrude stomach, before I started advancing towards the door.
I struggled my way towards the door, because I couldn't walk properly because of the giant food I had consumed.
My stomach was swollen, and it looked like a baby bump.
I placed one unsteady food after the other, apologized when I accidentally belched into a man's face, and he stared at me, with his nose wrinkled in disgust.
I stood outside to hail a taxi, but no taxi could stop. All the taxis were jam packed with people. And my cell phone had shut down, so I couldn't make use of the Uber app.
Whenever it was late, it was quite difficult to get a taxi in the city of Stamford.
And with the ongoing crime rate, it was dangerous to move alone at night, otherwise one would get manhandled, robbed or even kidnapped.
And I wanted nothing but to get the hell out of there, as fast as I could.
Mostly at night you'd stand for hours, to get a Taxi. People would beat you to hop into the taxi you hailed. And I couldn't get into a bus with people like sardines in a can. Where I would be standing on my full height, with the next person's bad breath, or body odour radiating in the air.
That was why, I needed a car. So I could go whichever way I pleased without the headache of getting a cab, or hopping on a bus with smelly sweaty, loud mouthed people.
I chewed on my buttom lip, then thought about making my way back into the eatery, to ask Molly and her husband to help me out. But that would just look stupid. I thought.
I had just turn down their offer.
I stood there for over ten minutes, awaiting for a taxi to locate me, and stared longingly at several cars passing by, when a limousine and it's convoy, stopped half a yard away from me.
