Stormy-Rein
Lily Jayson, the owner of Five Star Luxury Hotel in Stamford was hosting a party that evening in her hotel
Only the wealthy people in town had access to be invited.
But somehow, I stole the invitation card from the post man who was delivering the invitation cards.
I was at the park that saturday afternoon, watching parents, children and young couples having fun, and letting the cool breeze soothe my physical frame, when a postman stopped his motorcycle at the side of where I was sitting. And hurried into the bushy part of the park to take a piss. Poor guy must have been pressed.
The nosy part of me urged me to stand up, take the lead of the box, and peeked in. That was how I saw Lily Jayson's name written on one of the invitation card. I hurriedly took the first card I my hand could get hold of. I had wanted to interview her for a long time, but couldn't because her body guards were always with her and journalists weren't allowed into her hotel. Ever.
I stepped into the hotel that evening, and halted on my tracks when I saw how grand the hotel was. I couldn't help admiring lthe hotel's exquisiteness. It was very huge, captivating, breathtaking.
When I tried making my way in, I was stopped by a guard because I wasn't wearing the dress code. Rather it was my usual tomboy clothings, and I was forced to leave.
Sad and embarrassed, I hung my head down and began walking out of the hotel's premises when I felt a strong masculine hand grab my arm.
Cole
She stared at me oddly, with her eyes studying my face. I knew it was stupid of me grabbing her by the arm, but I felt the urge to help her.
"Listen to me."I said, tightening my grip on her arm, when she tried breaking free from my hold. Raising her head up to look at me, her face twisted into a giant scowl.
"I saw and heard everything that occurred between you and the usher guy at the door. I'll help you get a dress."I offered.
Her big eyes shone and her sassy mouth quivered.
Although, she was dressed like a boy, but that couldn't disguise the fact that she was pretty. She was light skinned, tall, bony with no curves and gangly. Big bulgy green eyes and full luscious lips. She wasn't smiling but her dimples were visible.
Something about her made me remembered Daphne. Although, they didn't look alike, no.
Daphne was short and curvier.
But something which I couldn't figure about her made me remembered Daphne.
That was the reason I even offered to help her.
I was expecting her to say a "Thank you."so I could take her to a close by boutique and purchase a black dress for her. Instead, she shocked me by raising a bushy brow up, and inquired.
"Why? Move the fuck away."
That was very rude and ungrateful of her, I thought, then I decided to talk back at her.
"Apparently, you saw how people were staring at you. The expression on their faces were like you were some kind of strange stray cat that found her way into someone's home. Partially because the guy at the door refused to usher you in. And what adds a stamp the fact that you've never been here before, is that you're dressed in poorly tomboy worn out clothes. Your shoes are torn as well."I insulted, feeling pleased with my self for making her glare at me. It had been a long damn while, since I had talked to someone like that.
"Don't you dare insult me."She warned, pointing her forefinger at me. And from the way her cheeks were working, clearly she was grinding her teeth.
But damn! what the hell. Her tiny child-like forefinger was pointed right at my face.
Never have I been pointed right at the face before. It was the first time I was pointed right at my face, by a female. A mannerless ingrate at that.
I grinded my teeth together in frustration then took my hand off her.
"Come to think of it, why are you even dressed like this? Didn't you read the instructions on the invitation card that females are supposed to be dressed in gowns?"I smirked at her clenched fists.
Raising my eye brow, I felt my face twist in mockery. "Let me be frank with you, Miss. I think you must've a stolen that invitation card in your hands."I pointed at the invitation card she was holding.
I stifled back laughter, when I knew my words had sting more than it should. And she was fuming with red rage, because if looks could kill, I probably would have been dead that moment with the death glare I was receiving from her. She was boring holes in my body, with the daggers she was glaring at me. And at the same time, it looked like she wanted to decapitate me.
Taking a step towards me, she poked on my chest with her finger, and said through gritted teeth. "Listen to me, you lunatic. I'm not the type of woman you'll insult and get away-"
"You, woman? You look sixteen. And a little lost."I interrupted her, pushing away her finger from my chest. And wiped invisible dirt off my suit jacket.
"I'm gonna make you pay for this. I mean right here and now."She barely finished before lunging for my neck.
I quickly grabbed her tiny hands with my right hand and started pulling her along with me, to my car. Because a whole lot of people were watching us with intensive curious eyes. And I didn't want to create a scene with the weird kid. She was shouting at the top of her voice, trying to break free from my grip, and hollering whatever insults she could find, at me.
All eyes were on us, and I was a little bit embarrassed. I pushed her into my car, shut the door, hurriedly got to into the car and drove out.
She was hitting me on the shoulders with her elbows and shouting at me to stop the car.
Finally, I stopped few yards away from the hotel. Panting, I turned to glare at her.
She had stopped hitting me, and was releasing deep heavy breaths of anger and fear.
"Why the hell did you do that?" She lowered her voice, as if she hadn't elbowed and shouted at me earlier on.
"If I had known how weird and crazy your are, I wouldn't have offered any help."I cringed inwardly, staring at her with displeasure.
"People call me weird, but crazy? I am not."She told me, putting on her cap which had fallen off her head when she was hitting my shoulders."You were just being a busybody to have offered to help. That is why I asked why you wanted to help. I don't like strangers interfering into my affairs."She scrunched her nose, and crossed her arms over her small chest.
After what she had done, she still had the guts to run her mouth. I grind my teeth together to keep my self from throwing her out of my car window. She was the type I detest. Loud, rude and saucy.
"And you're right, I stole the invitation card from a postman who stopped his bike in front of me. I stole it because I wanted to meet with Lily Jayson." She supplied.
"Everyone wants to meet with her"I mentally rolled my eyes. Because it was true. She was the talk of the town.
"Well, I'm not everyone. I'm a journalist that just wants to ask her few questions. Then I'm gone. That's all."She replied, then shrugged nonchalantly.
I felt my eyes widen.
A journalist? No wonder she could run her mouth. But come to think of it, why was she dressed like that? journalists were properly clad in conservative clothes. But this one was on an ill fitting shirt, and jean pants. A guys Jean at that. She was all shades of weird.
"A journalist?"I shoke my head in disbelief "You look nothing like one."
"Well, I am. And who the hell are you?"She asked glaring at me, fuming in invisible flames of anger again. Something which made her cheeks red.
"Cole Lockheart."
"Cole who?"She asked in disbelief.
"Cole Lockheart."I repeated, clearly not in the mood for all that.
"Woah". Her tone lowered into an iota of respect as she studied the expression on my face. "The Popular Attorney who helped Lily won the case where a girl was found dead in her hotel?"
"Guilty."I answered.
She knew. Well, news traveled fast.
"Uhm..Well, cool I guess."She shrugged. All these while we were conversing, she refused to break eye contact from me. She stared at me without blinking or winking. "She probably would have been behind bars if it weren't for you."She added quickly. Her voice laced with a tad of admiration.
I made no response to that, since that statement required no answer.
I was getting irritated as she kept on talking without stoping.
Everything about her was damn irritating that moment. Her voice, the way her lips moved. All I wanted was for her to stop talking and get her ass out of my car.
And as if she'd read my thoughts, she said.
"Well, I think I better get out of your car. Cause the way you're staring at me right now, shows you're not pleased with me in your car."
"I never was."I replied, knowing it would upset her.
She groaned in frustration, opened my car door, hopped out, then said with her hand on the door.
"People call you mean, but you're worse than mean. If there was another word for mean, that's what you are. No wonder you're a loner."
She then shut the car with a loud thud.
I heaved out in satisfaction when she took a cab and left.
She was such a weird girl. Probably in her late teens or so. And really cute despite her bad behavior.
I cursed myself for offering to help her. I had seen a mess and walked into it willingly. And now, she had ruin my mood.
I couldn't attend Lily's party anymore, I'd give her a call or something when I had forgotten about my encounter with the weird journalist.
She was so weird looking, wearing male's trousers and could run her mouth like a parrot. But she was pretty. Yes, she was.
But that couldn't put a stop to my dislike for her.
I prayed in my heart that I would never get to meet with her again.
I drove away from the hotel's premises when I saw Lily's convoy advancing.
I was not in the mood to attend party. All I need was to be alone that moment. Yes.
