On reaching home, that feeling of uselessness catches up with her again, she grudgingly places her bags on the top of the dinner table far across the sitting room and runs up the stairs. Immediately her body touches the bed she prays for the grace to avoid being enraged. It was like it was to no avail because she felt like all her life she had never been useful, first her both parents left her at the age of fourteen she had to scavenge for bits and pieces having no one to help her, then she met someone, her friend per say, Susan’s family took her in, after sometime when she found something doing she had to rent an apartment, not too long like a few months later of gaining independence, she met her now husband during her morning jogs, and before you know it they started dating, and after two years of taking it slow, they finally tied the knot.
Her tears had dried up and adhered to her face, and her hair had taken an uncomfortable shape as she slept on her hands and stomach. She was fatigued and it showed on her face; there was no one she could contact, and she didn’t want to call Susan for fear of being confronted.
She still got up a few hours later to cook the food, her reason for cooking changed though, she was cooking because she was hungry, but she was still kind enough to ensure there were leftovers for James. Once she was done cooking she grabs her already dished out food and dashes over to the dining table to finish her dinner, she and Susan had forgotten to eat anything, and being hungry wasn’t going to be a good thing for her too, as she planned to confront her husband later when he came back, no matter what he said to her early this morning, she was going to wait up, and ask him questions, so maybe he would understand that they were still married. . Slowly, she stuffed her food into her mouth, just enough to fill the space in her stomach but not enough to receive the true taste of it. She was waiting, but dying inside, every piece of her had already given up, her plans to have a baby, her plans to go to Hong Kong and have something close to a honeymoon with her husband, each spoon she takes into her mouth she makes sure to bite almost all parts of the spoon. Aurora was emotionally dead, it was official.
She opened up her Mac book and got to work, answering her various readers and looking to start a blog, but with the way she was feeling now, she can’t even respond to mails. This thing, like there was this feeling threatening to lock her up, there were thoughts of suicide, ending her life, because if she had no one then what’s the use of staying alive, if people you love cannot love you back then how could you breath she thought.
She sat beside her table waiting for her husband, she promised herself no sleep until she has had the talk with him, it will be better for her system she thought. She decides to change her spot when she gets a little tired; she walked up to the window expecting to see her husband’s car. And she does see it, coming closer to the house; the gate opens automatically on its own when the car was close. Waiting patiently she keeps looking at the car until it finally comes into the house, immediately it is parked, she observes quietly as he makes it out of his car and then proceeds to open the other side of the car, she came down but shyly, James gives her a peck on her cheek and then whispers something into her ears, she smiles and they both look up to her side of the window, Aurora dodges like she’s been caught doing something bad, they should be the ones dodging she thinks to herself, poking her head out again she sees them both kissing, then finally James opens up the car door and leaves Diana in the car as he comes back up, seeing the way he is walking Aurora knows he won’t be sleeping in the house today. To what extent was she going to be this stupid she wondered? She slowly rests her rare end on the bed and waits for the arrival of her husband. James comes into the room a few seconds later not even bothering to spare Aurora a glance, it was like she was invincible, he kept humming a song as if to let her know he knew what he was doing.
“Where are you off to?” she asks.
James looks at her, clear irritation written on his face.
“Yeah” he responds still focused on what he is doing, he grudgingly takes his clothes out of his hanger, and begins throwing shirts on the bed.
“Where are you headed to” she asks him, to her this is the final question she will be asking. If he lies, then he lies, she would stop disturbing the whole situation.
“a business meeting, will be coming back by the end of the month, so do not wait up for me and do not spread anything yet” Aurora looked him up and down and that was it, she was done,
