Aria's POV

The last entry in Kira's conditions section arrived on a Saturday morning in late December.

Not announced. She appeared in the kitchen doorway with the notebook and set it on the table in front of me and sat down across from me and said: "I found the words."

I set down what I was reading.

She'd written two pages. Denser than her usual entries — the sentences closer together, the handwriting slightly smaller, the way she wrote when she was getting something down before it could change form.

I read:
