“Miss Alvara, please stand up,” Dr. Oden pleads.

I shook my head, tears blurring my vision. “I should have listened to you that night, Doc. I—“

Strong hands gripped my shoulders. It was Kai's.

“Alvara,” he calls out in a low tone. “Stand up.”

“I can't,” I whispered.

“You have to.”

Pulling me up gently to my feet, he adds, “Klein would want us to be strong for him. I thought we agreed to stop blaming ourselves already.”

“We'll do our best to save him,” Dr. Oden assures us. Then, he walked into the emergency room.

The door slides open an hour later.

“How is he, Doc?” I asked....
