The days that followed the alpha's untimely demise were a blur of confusion and despair for Evelina. She found herself confined to the pack's makeshift prison, a dank, cramped space that reeked of mildew and hopelessness.
As she huddled in the corner of her cell, her mind replayed the events of that fateful morning over and over again. The alpha's convulsions, the look of sheer terror in his eyes as he gasped for air, and Morgana's triumphant smirk as she leveled the accusation of poisoning – it all swirled together in a nightmarish whirlwind.
The creak of the heavy iron door broke Evelina from her reverie, and she looked up to see two burly pack members entering her cell, their expressions grim.
"On your feet, Evelina," one of them growled, his voice laced with contempt.
Evelina rose shakily, her limbs trembling with a combination of fear and malnutrition. She had been given only meager rations since her imprisonment, and the lack of sustenance was taking its toll.
"Where are you taking me?" she asked, her voice little more than a hoarse whisper.
The pack members didn't bother to respond, instead grabbing her roughly by the arms and hauling her out of the cell. Evelina winced at their bruising grip but didn't resist, too weak and demoralized to put up a fight.
They dragged her through a maze of corridors, the flickering torchlight casting eerie shadows on the stone walls. Finally, they emerged into a cavernous chamber, where a makeshift dais had been erected.
Evelina's heart sank as she took in the scene before her. Rows of pack members lined the chamber, their eyes burning with accusation and hatred. And on the dais, a familiar figure stood, her posture radiating smug satisfaction.
Morgana.
"Bring her forward," Morgana commanded, her voice ringing out like a death knell.
The pack members propelled Evelina toward the dais, her feet stumbling on the uneven ground. As she drew closer, she could see the glint of triumph in Morgana's eyes, and a cold chill ran down her spine.
"Evelina Wren," Morgana began, her tone dripping with mock solemnity. "You stand accused of the most heinous crime – the murder of our beloved alpha."
A murmur rippled through the gathered pack members, their expressions ranging from outrage to disbelief.
"I didn't do it!" Evelina cried, her voice cracking with desperation. "Morgana, you know I'm innocent!"
Morgana's lips curled into a cruel smirk. "Innocent?" she sneered. "You were the last one with the alpha before his untimely demise. The evidence speaks for itself."
"But I would never harm the alpha!" Evelina protested, her eyes pleading with the pack members to see reason. "I'm loyal to the pack, to all of you!"
"Lies!" Morgana spat, her eyes narrowing with disdain. "Your treachery has been exposed, Evelina, and there can be only one punishment for such a heinous act."
A heavy silence fell over the chamber as Morgana paused for dramatic effect, her gaze sweeping over the assembled pack members.
"Exile," she declared, her voice ringing with finality.
A collective gasp rose from the crowd, and Evelina felt her heart plummet into the depths of despair. Exile – a fate worse than death for a wolf bound to their pack.
"No!" she pleaded, tears streaming down her face. "Please, you can't do this!"
But her cries fell on deaf ears as the pack members closed in around her, their expressions hardened by Morgana's verdict.
"Take her away," Morgana commanded, her eyes glinting with malicious satisfaction. "And let it be known that any who dare to aid or shelter Evelina Wren will face the same fate."
Evelina's screams echoed through the chamber as she was dragged away, her nails clawing at the ground in a futile attempt to resist. She caught one final glimpse of Morgana, her smug grin seared into Evelina's memory like a brand.
The journey out of the pack's territory was a blur of pain and despair. Evelina was battered and bruised; her spirit utterly crushed by the weight of Morgana's treachery. As the pack's borders faded into the distance, she felt a part of herself wither and die, her connection to her kin severed with each step she was forced to take.
Finally, they reached the edge of the pack's territory, a desolate stretch of wilderness that promised nothing but uncertainty and peril. With a final, brutal shove, the pack members sent Evelina stumbling into the unknown, her pleas for mercy falling on deaf ears.
"You're no longer one of us, Evelina Wren," one of them sneered, his voice dripping with contempt. "May the spirits have mercy on your wretched soul."
And with that, they turned and left, their forms disappearing into the distance, leaving Evelina alone in the unforgiving wilderness.
