Chapter 1

Chapter 1

I haven't talked to my family in about two months. All of them tried talking to me and get me to move back home, but the thing was, all kept a huge secret from me. Every single one of them, and they told me it wasn't a big deal.

In my opinion, my boyfriend cheating on me with my sister was a big deal.

I blocked all of their numbers and didn't even show up to my mom's birthday, which was two weeks after I moved out.

Oops.

It was the first day of my job teaching at the high school. I was teaching chemistry for the juniors and seniors at the school.

Before I got to the school, I got some coffee first because I was still tired, even if I went to bed early. When I got to the school, I grabbed all my stuff and walked inside, heading straight to my classroom. I was at the school every day last week to start preparing, but now, it was the first day I would have to teach.

After setting my stuff on my desk, I headed down to the teacher's lounge because apparently, they were going to bring donuts there the first morning of every week and I wanted some donuts.

Quite a few teachers were already there. I met a few during the past week of me coming here, but some I didn't meet.

Martha Goth was the principal of the school and she was there as well. When she spotted me, she walked over. "There are actually a few things I have to tell you about working here," she said. "The students at this school love gossip because they're teenagers, of course, but there's one rumor I'll need you to deny if the students ask you about it. Even though it happened last year, they still talk about it and since you're the new teacher, they'll probably ask you about it to get confirmation."

"What is it?" I asked.

"Last year, one of the students tried committing suicide by jumping off the roof," she said. "He didn't, thankfully. His girlfriend was able to talk him out of it and even though I had to tell the students it didn't happen, they like talking about it. If they ask you, you'll have to deny it."

"Of course," I said. "Does that student still go here?"

"No, he graduated, but since it was a dramatic even, they'll still talk about it," Martha said.

I nodded. "How is he doing, by the way? Something must have been going on for him to try doing that."

"Uh, I don't how he's doing," Martha said. "But someone should." She turned to the table where the donuts were and called someone over before sighing. "Tony, is that your third donut?"

The man, Tony, looked down. "No. It's my fourth."

Martha sighed and gestured for him to come over. "This is the new teacher, Charlie Rutter," she said. "She'll be teaching chemistry to the junior and seniors."

"Hi," he said, giving me a smile.

"Hi," I said back, tempted to return the smile. I only did because he had chocolate sauce all around his mouth. "You kind of have something... here." I gestured around the mouth area.

"Oh, oops," he said, using the napkin in his hand to wipe away the chocolate sauce.

"I was just telling Charlie about the event that the students keep talking about and how she'll have to deny it," Martha said. "How is Grayson doing, by the way? Is he and Poppy still together?"

"Yeah, they are," Tony said. "They moved into an apartment together near the college they'll both be attending. I believe Grayson is going to be a vet, and he's currently in remission of his depression."

Martha smiled. "That's good. Although, I should have expected it considering what he did at the graduation ceremony."

"What did he do?" I asked.

"When my sister, his girlfriend, was crossing the stage, he stood up and yelled 'That's my girlfriend' or something like that," Tony explained. "Then he yelled 'I love you' after he was told not to yell things out."

"That's actually kind of cute," I said before looking at Martha. "Is there anything else I have to know about?"

Martha shook her head. "No, I believe that's all. Good luck teaching here. Trust me, with the students here, you're going to need it."

When she walked off, I looked at Tony. "So what subject are you teaching?" I asked.

"Biology," he said. "It's my second-year teaching and it will probably go smoother this year considering I won't be teaching my sister and her boyfriend."

"Is she that annoying?" I asked.

Tony shook his head. "No, she's not that annoying. The only problem was that she was always able to get out of detention and doing homework, mainly by talking about how hot her boyfriend was. Long story."

"How long have they been together?" I asked.

"Almost a year and a half," he said. "They're really in love. They'll probably even get married before I find a girlfriend and I'm already twenty-three."

Sweet, he was my age.

Wait, no, what was I saying? No more relationships. I wasn't going to trust someone only to have them break me. I was done with that.

"Anyway, I should probably head to my classroom," Tony said. "Class is going to start soon, but I'll see you around, Charlie"

When he left the teacher's lounge, I silently sighed. Why did he have to be so cute?

Well, it looked like I was going to have to get him to not want to be around me. Time to become a bitch.

Since it was the first day of my teaching my own class -I was a student teacher before- it was going to take me some time to get used to. It wasn't that hard today because I just went over the course outline, as well as went over some class expectations. I decided to be one of the teachers that let them eat in class, because nothing bothered me more when I was in university than when I was in the middle of a lecture and I was starving.

The day went by sort of fast since I didn't have to do any teaching. That was going to start tomorrow. I didn't have to prepare anything for tomorrow, so I grabbed the things I would have to take home and headed back to my apartment.

I pulled into the parking lot and started heading towards the building, but I couldn't believe what was standing near the entrance. Someone who I haven't seen in two months.

Ian.

Ian spotted me and walked over. "I can't believe I'm actually seeing you right now," he said. "I missed you a lot."

"How did you find me?" I asked.

"My cousin actually lives in this apartment and saw you, so he told me," he said. "We all miss you, Charlie. We haven't seen you for two months."

"You all don't get to miss me," I said.

"Don't be like that," Ian said.

"Be like what?" I asked. "You betrayed me, Ian. You were hooking up with my sister behind my back and my whole family knew about it. Nobody told me. Just leave, Ian."

"No," he said. "I will not leave until you give me another chance. I love you, Charlie. We've been dating for two years. You know I love you."

"No, you don't," I said. "Because if you loved me, you wouldn't have went behind my back. I don't want to see any of you again, so don't you dare come back here. Just go back to Lydia."

He tried talking to me more, but I walked passed him and went inside my apartment. I locked the door, dropping everything on the kitchen table before sitting down on my couch.

I couldn't believe Ian had the nerve to say he still loved me after everything he did. He didn't get to love me, because I sure as hell didn't love him anymore. And I would never love him ever again.
