Chapter 2

Chapter 2

*September*

So far, a month has passed and Tony and I weren't getting closer in any way. He was really sweet the first day, but I couldn't handle being hurt again, so I had to push him away. Now, we argued all the time.

So if there was any chance of him liking me before, there wasn't a chance now.

I still haven't had any contact with my family yet, thankfully. After Ian showed up at the apartment that one day, I was worried one of my family members would show up and try talking to me as well. Nobody did.

After work today, I had to go to a doctor's appointment for a check up on my shoulder. I fractured it a while back, and surprisingly Ian didn't even visit me in the hospital, and even though I wasn't feeling anymore pain, I still had to get a check-up.

However, I had to stay at the school a bit longer than I thought to help put a student and by the time I had to leave for my appointment, most of the teachers were gone.

I went outside to my car and got in. I tried starting it up over and over again, but it wouldn't work. I sighed and got out of my car. I've been meaning to get a new battery, but I kept forgetting.

"Need some help?" a voice said.

I turned and saw Tony, sighing. He just had to show up. "By anyone but you, yes," I said.

"Okay," he said. But just so you know, I am one of the last teachers to leave, so...”

I sighed. "My car's not starting up and I have a doctor's appointment."

"Oh," Tony said. "I have some cables at home, so I can quickly go there and come back to give it a jumpstart."

"Thanks for the offer, but, like I said, I have a doctor's appointment," I said. "So that won't really work, idiot."

"I try being nice and I get this," Tony said. "Okay, how about I drive you there, then after go to my apartment to get the cables and bring you back here to jumpstart it?"

"Is there anyone else that can do it?" I asked. "I'd rather not have you do it."

"Like I said, I'm one of the last teachers to leave," Tony said. "You better take my offer quick if you really have to get to your doctor's appointment."

"Fine, whatever," I muttered.

"A thank you would be nice," he said.

"Don't push it," I said.

Tony sighed once again before leading me to his car. I got in the passenger seat and told him where my doctor's office was. And it turned out he had the exact same doctor as me.

When we got there, Tony said he would wait inside with me so he didn't have to sit in the car.

I was hating having him so close to me. I hated him a lot.

Okay, I didn't really hate him, but I didn't want to like him. So I was going to continue getting him to hate me until one of us no longer worked at the school and never had to see each other again.

A girl and a boy walked out of the doctor's office. "Poppy?" Tony said, looking at the girl. It was his sister, and the boy with her must have been her boyfriend. "What are you doing here?"

"Uh... What are you doing here?" she asked. She was definitely hiding something, but it was none of my business.

"I asked you first," Tony said.

"I asked you first?" Poppy repeated. "What are you, five?"

Tony sighed, something I noticed he did a lot. "My co-worker needed a ride because her car broke down."

"And I was ever so unfortunate to have to ask you," I said. "If only there was another person still at the school."

"Hey, I brought you here," Tony said. "If you're going to whine about it, I'll just leave and you could find a way back, okay?"

Please do.

Tony looked back at his sister. "So what are you doing here?"

"I just had an appointment," Poppy said. "Nothing special."

Tony raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, you're my sister, I can tell when you're lying."

"I'm not lying," she said. "I just had an appointment. That's all. Can I leave now or are you going to interrogate me some more?"

"I'm just asking," Tony said. "I guess I'll see you later."

Poppy grabbed her boyfriend's hand and pulled him out of the building. As soon as she left, my doctor, Dr. Shay, called me into the office. I got up and walked into there, sitting on one of the chairs.

"So, first things first, how is your shoulder doing?" she asked.

"Good," I said. "I don't feel any more pain, so I think it's all good."

While Dr. Shay was testing out by having me move my arm around, she decided to talk about my stupid family. "I had your mom for an appointment last week," she said. "She told me that you moved out, blocked all your family's numbers, and refuse to talk to them."

I snorted. "And let me guess, she didn't tell you why?"

"No, she did," Dr. Shay said. "She said you and your boyfriend broke up and since they still let him around, you moved out."

"That isn't what happened at all," I said. Figures. My mom would change the story. "What really happened was my boyfriend was cheating on me with Lydia and my whole family knew. I only found out by hearing them talk the day I graduated from university."

"Oh, well in that case, what you did is completely reasonable," she said. "You getting a fresh start."

"Yeah," I said.

She was finished checking my shoulder. "And how's it going for you?"

"Okay," I said. "I'm a teacher at a high school now and I'm actually liking it."

Dr. Shay smiled. "That's good. Well, your shoulder is completely fine now. You're good to go."

"Thanks," I said before getting up and leaving the office, walking to where Tony was sitting. "Let's go, idiot."

"Can you be nice to me for even one day?" Tony asked, standing up from his chair.

"Highly unlikely," I said.

Tony, again, sighed as we walked out of the building and to his car. He then drove to his apartment to get the cables to jumpstart his car and when he got to the apartment building, I groaned. "Please don't tell me you live here," I said.

"Well, obviously I do because I'm getting the cables from my apartment," he said. "Why?"

This time, it was my turn to sigh. "I live here. Great, so I might run into you outside of school?"

Tony didn't say anything as he got out of the car and headed inside the building. He came back with the cables about five minutes later and drove back to the school to jumpstart my car.

"There you go," Tony said once my car started up. "You're welcome."

"Thanks," I said, but in a sarcastic tone.

Tony just got back into his car and drove off. I rubbed my forehead, pulling out of the parking lot and heading towards the apartment building.

I couldn't believe Tony lived in the same building as me. That was going to suck. I was trying my hardest to avoid him and keep him off my mind. Now it seemed harder than I thought it would.
