Seeing that the glittering blade was about to be banged on their heads, Karina, who was used to offering bribes in order to get things done, pleaded, "Please do not cause any harm to us, and I promise we will give you anything you want.'' Tears, which were faked, welled out of her eyes like a rushing river.
Sabrina, who had read the man's facial expression, pulled the hem of Karina's creamish blouse to get her attention, but was ignored.
"You'll regret ever doing this," she mind-linked her, but Karina scoffed instead, sending a warning glare at her. "Don't you dare interrupt!" She could read this in her eyes.
"What makes you think you can make a deal with me, woman?" The man's hoarse and loud voice came, jarring them from their stairing competition.
"Huh? I.." Karina started but was cut off with a hot slap on her cheek. She held her throbbing right cheek, wincing at the pain traveling through her veins that made her eyes water. "I.." She opened her mouth to say something else but was slapped on the left side of her cheek. "My teeth!" she cried, looking at her set of canines lying on the stony hard ground.
Blood oozed out of her mouth, rolled down her chin, and made a small patch on the front of her blouse. She gasped, holding her cheeks and looking at the man in confusion. "Why are you hitting me?" She pulled herself from the ground while spitting some of the blood that had accumulated in her mouth.
"Are you questioning me, woman?" The man asked, gripping her throat with his broad, rough hands. "How dare you? How dare you question me, you filthy woman?" He asked through gritted teeth. Sabrina stood with the intention of talking that man into forgiving her stupid friend, but a blade on her neck sent her to her knees.
"Don't you dare!" The man warned with a deep, angered growl pressing in his voice.
"Please, please, let us go." Although Sabrina didn't say these words, her eyes said it all. That man took the blade off his neck and released his tight grip around Karina's neck. She fell on her rear end while coughing uncontrollably to take in some breath. With a loud warning huff, the man spun around, his large feet digging into the ground.
With each step he took forward, a small hole was created beneath his feet, and some soil particles found themselves flying backwards to the eyes of the two scared women who were hugging each other.
"I have never held my breath for this long," Sabrian mumbled when the man was out of sight. She rose to her feet and dusted her dress while rubbing her eyes to clear them of the tiny dust particles.
"I can't believe you were sitting here looking at me while I was busy fighting for my breath," Karian complained after getting back to her senses. Until then, she still couldn't believe what had just happened. She had tried pinching herself to see if she was dreaming, but the pain that stuffed through her body made her aware of her reality.
"He slapped me, me?" She chuckled while thrusting her undex finger on her chest. "He doesn't know with whom he is picking a fight. I will one day bring him to his knees," she said, nodding her head in agreement, agreeing to what she was already planning in her head.
"I told you, didn't I?" Sabrina reminded her, "Instead of planning your revenge, you better help me think of a way that will take us out of here. This man spared us, but if we encounter another, we will be killed for sure."
"You can go if you want." Karina responded grumpily while chewing on her nails, her mind far away.
"What? Why did you want to remain here? Don't forget Mother Ophra has a mission for us," Sabrina reminded her friend.
"I told you, Rina, I am not going anywhere. Not until I get my revenge," she said while caressing the red marks left around her neck. Her cheeks were swollen, and they were red. So red, as if it was on fire. "Why are we laughing? Do you think I am joking?" She then snapped at Karian when she caught her trying to control her laughter. Her eyes had betrayed her because tears, which were obviously triggered by happiness, were welling out of her eyes.
"I am laughing because of you. You look chubby," she said, stretching her hands to show her how chubby her cheeks looked. "Anyway, you can't fight that man. I mean, if you think you can fight him, you could have done it the moment he approached us, but...you almost peed on yourself." Sabrina drew her last words, hoping that Karina wouldn't hear them, but she already had.
"Whatever, let's get out of here. You have already put me in much trouble anyway," she said, pulling her by the hand as they walked around the forest looking for a portal that would take them back to the world they were living in.
It didn't take long before they relocated the portal and were transcribed back to their houses. Karina found the house empty, and so did Sabrina. They both learned for their helpers that their husbands were still at the hospital because Camila was yet to be hospitalized.
"Back in the forest, you didn't answer my question," Sabrian mind-linked Karian as he stripped her clothes for a warm, long bath.
Karina, who was sitting on the couch, her eyes glued on the television, mind-linked back, "What didn't I tell you?"
"About Camila, silly," Sabrian chuckled and then asked, ''why is she in the hospital? We weren't the cause this time, or were you?" She trailed off.
"I didn't do anything, and to answer your question, I don't know why she is hospitalized. Why don't you call your husband? I am sure he will tell you what happened because, after all, Camila is your daughter-in-law now," Karian scowled while blowing Sabrina from her head.
Karina turned the television off and went upstairs to take a shower. She needed a warm bath to strengthen her muscles, and she also needed to cover her bruises before her husband saw her. What will he tell her if he asks? Will she say she was involved in a fight? Absolutely not! Walking into the bathroom, she stripped her clothes off and made herself sit in the bathtub that was already prepared for her by her personal maid.
She lifted her leg, but before she could submerge in the warm water, a stranger's face bubbled out from underneath the water. "You? How did you get in here? Did you stalk us?" She asked while running towards the door. Her intention of pushing the door open and running away failed because a strong wind came from nowhere, slamming it shut. She tried to shout and call for help, but her voice failed to come out.
"No one challenges me, woman!" The person said that while coming out of the bathtub, a mischievous smile curled on his lips. "No one!" He laughed loud enough to wake the dead, making Karina's legs wobble as she fell on the hard, cold ground.
