Marksman POV

“So that’s her,” James said.

“Yep. That’s Ember,” Marksman replied, lifting his beer to his mouth and taking a sip.

He’d been wondering how long it would take his father to bring up the subject of Ember. Not long, apparently. This was the first time they’d been alone since the family lunch the day before and these were pretty much the first words his father had said to him since he walked in the door.

“But that’s not all she is, is it?” James said. “She’s not just ‘Ember,’”

Marksman slowly turned his head to look at his father and swallowed. Did his father know who he was?...
