Jason’s POV

The heavy front door of the penthouse clicks shut behind me at 7:03 PM. All I want is a glass of wine and some sleep. But, the familiar scent of roasting herbs wafting from the kitchen halts my plan.

"Dinner will be served soon, sir," the chef says, appearing from the doorway.

I give a curt nod, my mind already elsewhere. "Where is Diane?"

I turn to the new security detail, the ten men I'd personally assigned. They look at each other, a silent, panicked conversation passing between them before the youngest steps forward.
