Edward and I were introduced by Angelina seven years ago.
Back then, my knowledge of him was limited to his successful career, good family background, handsome looks, along with good temper; he was the epitome of a perfect marriage candidate.
He was pursuing Angelina at the time, but she only saw him as a brother, a friend. Despite doing many things for her, he couldn't win her heart.
I remember telling Angelina that he would be a great marriage prospect, suggesting she give him a chance. She was persuaded by my words, and they decided to give it a try.
I recall it was a rare snowy winter in the south. He was jealous when Angelina chatted and went out with male friends, leading to a quarrel even a bitter parting. In the end, he conceded, waiting for her downstairs, with me playing the mediator.
Eventually Angelina came downstairs, and I watched from the window as he carefully draped his coat over her, coaxing her in a soft voice, gently stroking her hair.
Watching him gently lift her chin and place that sweet kiss on her.
It turned out Edward could be tender and anxious for someone.
Their relationship was known to many in our circle, after all, they were a perfect match.
Unfortunately, their zealous love didn't last long and end imperfectly..
Originally, after meeting each other's parents and being satisfied, Edward wanted to get married right away, but Angelina was reluctant, unwilling to be tied down by family.
I could be considered the one who witnessed their arguments the most, with quarrels, reconciliations, and then again more quarrels, until Angelina chose to break up, having met someone who made her willing to put away her pettiness and flutter her heart.
After that, I never saw Edward again.
A year later, I attended Angelina's wedding as a bridesmaid, and he was invited by Angelina's husband, as a business partner, and we met again.
Our companies had a project collaboration, as a consequence of which I had intersections with him again.
Due to work, we became reacquainted.
As the head of operations at the branch company, my contact with him increased, likewise with banquets and social events we attended together increased.
Knowing he had a weak stomach, I would remind him to drink less during social events.
A month later at a social gathering, I had too much to drink and squatted by the roadside, shivering from the cold regardless of my cheeks flushed red and was happened to be picked up by he, who just came across all of this when walking out of the KTV.
That night, with the help of alcohol, everything happened so naturally. Yes, I slept with him.
The next day, waking up from a hangover, I opened my eyes to an unfamiliar environment, the soreness all over my body, making the fragments of last night play like a movie in my mind. Turning my head, I saw a familiar face. Feeling guilty, I carefully lifted the blanket, preparing to slip out of bed.
Just as I was about to get up, my waist was encircled by a strong and powerful hand.
"Where do you think you're going? Are you trying to run away after sleeping with me?" His voice was hoarse as he spoke, his hand pulling me back, causing me to fall onto the bed. He propped himself up on his hands, looking into my eyes and asked:
"Cecilia, are you falling in love with me?"
I stared at him, nodding dumbly.
Yes, I had fallen for him at some point, always secretly harboring feelings for him.
He chuckled at me.
"So... how about marrying me? You wouldn't want to be irresponsible, would you?"
