The doctor's words resounded in my ears and I just couldn't believe it. I froze for a moment. it felt as if time had come to a standstill.

“Can you tell me more about this SCID?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

The doctor's voice was gentle as he added, “It's a rare genetic disorder that affects the immune system.”
