Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Early in the morning, I walked into the office with my eyes still slightly red.

Despite trying cold and warm compresses, the swelling hadn’t completely gone down.

Fortunately, I arrived early enough to avoid being seen.

The light was on in Jayden’s office. As I approached, I opened the door to find Sarah sitting on Jayden’s lap.

The events of last night replayed vividly in my mind.

“Why are you here so early?” Jayden scrambled to his feet, pushing Sarah away.

“You wanted to talk to me, didn’t you?” I said coldly, stepping inside and glaring at Sarah. “Get out.”

“I’m Mr. Hart’s secretary,” Sarah said, standing her ground.

I smirked, “I’m the company’s vice president.”

Sarah tugged at Jayden’s sleeve.

“Leave us for now,” Jayden said, frowning at Sarah.

Sarah shot a resentful glance at me before reluctantly twisting her body and leaving, giving Jayden a final, pitiful look.

“Alice,” Jayden said, coming toward me, trying to grab my arm.

I pulled away, keeping my face stern. “Don’t touch me.”

Jayden’s face shifted between pale and flushed as he let his hands fall to his sides. “Last night was truly a mistake. I was drunk and confused Sarah for you.”

“How did Sarah know the location of the new house and gain access?” I asked coldly, my gaze fixed on Jayden.

Jayden lowered his head. “She came to deliver some documents.”

I inwardly scoffed; documents delivered right to the bed.

“How do you plan to resolve this?”

“I’ll do whatever you say,” Jayden replied with sincere eyes.

I nodded.

“If you want me to forgive you, you must fire Sarah,” I said firmly.

“No way!” Jayden immediately protested.

I stared at him as he turned his head away and then back to me. “If this gets out, it will negatively impact both me and the company. Besides, Sarah is already in a tough spot. Kicking her out now would be like signing her death warrant.”

“Why is she so pitiful? Without you, she’d still find work. She could even sweep streets to make a living,” I retorted. Jayden’s excuse was transparent.

“Her family won’t let her off easily. She has no one but me.”

I laughed, “Rely on you? Can you protect her forever?”

Jayden fell silent.

I took a deep breath. “If you’re worried about her being found by her family, then send her abroad. Her family can’t very well track her down in another country, can they?”

“It’s unsafe and unfamiliar there,” Jayden refused again.

I glared at him. “You’re reluctant to part with this old flame, aren’t you?”

“What did you say!” Jayden was startled, his face turning angry. “Have you been investigating me?”

I didn’t back down. “And you? You lied to me, saying she was just a schoolmate. Everyone knew you messed up your SAT because of her. It’s common knowledge at your school.”

Jayden exploded with rage. “That was in the past. We’re just friends now.”

I was done arguing with him.

“My condition is that Sarah must be fired and never allowed back at the company.”

Jayden still refused.

We parted on bad terms.

I began to doubt if the wedding could go on as planned.
