Chapter 6

Chapter 6

Loren? How did he get my number? I looked at my phone again while I bit the edge of my lip. What should I say now?

My phone suddenly beeped and I flinched. 'Are you there' it read and I sighed before typing.

'Yeah, sorry I zoned out. How did you get my number?'

It took some minutes but I finally got a reply. 'Got it from Clara. Can we maybe video chat, it's really awkward this way'

Why does he want to video chat with me and why did he collect me number anyway. I didn't have much time to type anything before I was interrupted by a call, video chat call.

My lips formed into a thin line as I stood up swiftly to check my appearance. For the fact that I haven't had a video chat with anybody excluding Clara is ironic but true. Hopefully, my room looked tidy enough so I grabbed my phone and accepted it.

Loren's face popped up immediately and it was filled with smiles. I smiled back not wanting to be rude as I sat on my bed, finding a comfortable posture. Finally, I settled in as I kept my head on my pink headboard, ignoring Loren's quizzical gaze.

I spoke first, "why are you calling me?"

He just smiled, snapping out of his trance. I narrowed my eyes at him.

"It was getting weird just talking through texts when I could call," he suddenly scowled and added, "it's bad right, I've just known you for half a day and now I'm calling you."

"It's not bad; after all we are friends," I told him and I watched him smile again.

"I partly called to show you that I talk," he mused and I threw my head back giggling.

"So in some degree you just want me to hear you talk, but what about the other degree?" I tried to understand more clearly.

"To or in the other degree, I just wanted to see how my new friend was doing," he stated.

"I'm fine, but I'm very sure that you got the wrong thing. I'm one of your new friends," I corrected. It seemed so easy for him to make that mistake.

"I think it's the same thing," he said and I held my giggles. I didn't want him to feel bad, he just wanted to get comfortable with me and I'm making it hard.

"I see that you are going through the same thing as me," I smirked at his puzzled expression before adding, "it's obvious that I am your first girl-friend,"

Just like that, he turned red in the face and I really face palmed. Typical. Always thinking about the negative things first.

"It's not what I mean," I rolled my eyes at him. If he acts like this again I won't hesitate to cut the call.

"I know," he replied and I watched him blush nervously. Talk about guys!

"I was just thinking about your mistake," he said and I watched him curiously. "It's girl-friends not girl-friend. Clara is included." I rolled my eyes harder this time. His payback was not that great but he kept on laughing as I scowled.

"Sorry, I'm sorry please speak," he calmed down after a brief mockery of me. And now he wants me to speak, I could slap him.

"Why?" I questioned and he smirked at me. I just remained calm; biting on the edge of my lip, trying to look as innocent as possible.

"Because I love your accent," he shrugged and I smiled. He flatters me a lot.

"Thank you for the compliment," I said clearly and he nodded. "The perks of being the best friend of the princess and being awfully close to the Queen."

"Speaking of that, I researched and found out that your mom is a famous lawyer," he stated and I nodded.

"Yes, she is a lawyer. I would love to be one too," I confessed and he hummed.

"That's fantastic, at least you know what you want to become in the nearest future," his gaze fell and I blinked.

"I'm sure you'll figure out in time," I responded and he smiled. I hope he feels better.

"I still don't get it," he huffed. What does he mean by that?

"Get what?" I asked. He is getting me curious every minute of the day. I shall call him 'roun'

"Your speech is really enhanced now. At school it was low," he said and I smiled.

"You noticed. I am used to it. It became a frequent habit of mine and I see that I have rubbed it all over you," I mused as he shook his head.

"It makes you sound mature," he told me and I grinned widely.

"Thank you again, you too," I acted fair. I hope that he talks like this always. It suits him.

"I hope our conversation for today was not as boring as before," he winked and I grimaced. It feels like it did; it didn't really.

"It felt less boring," I joked and he glared at me. I tried to keep an innocent face not mind my grin.

I heard him sigh, "You are so carefree, polite and smart. I envy you," I didn't understand what he said but I just saw that he meant every word.

"What do you mean roun?" I asked clearly and his expression changed from sadness to confusion. I would have laughed if we were in a different situation.

"Roun? Really what's that?" He questioned me. Now he is asking the meaning of his own name. Can you believe it?

"That's your name. It means a secret or mystery," I simply stated biting down on the edge of my lip. I seem to be doing it often.

"I don't like it. Please stop," he stated clearly and I held myself from rolling my eyes. I have to stop doing that before I give myself a headache.

"Okay, I'll drop it only if you tell me what's bothering you," I spoke and he nodded slightly. It's a deal then.

"Go on," I said when I noticed how reluctant he is. He hesitated, maybe I shouldn't pressure him to tell me something he doesn't want to talk about, especially with.

"I don't know my mother. I live alone with my father," he explained as he stared at me. He doesn't have a mom? And he acts okay, if it was me I would have snapped at every one that comes my way.

"I'm sorry," I forced out; not knowing how he'd react as I watched him through my phone screen. How did he lose his mother, when did she go. I wanted to ask all these things but held them back knowing that it will only hurt him more.

"It's okay. I am used to it, it's just that I get emotional when I meet some one that has a mother. I get jealous!" He said with so much emotion.

"If it makes you better, my mom and I are barely on speaking terms right now," I stated and I looked at me shocked. Why wouldn't he!

"Why?" He asked instead. I was thinking that he would have snapped at me for treating my mom like that while he wanted one so badly, but he didn't.

"My parents kept some important information from us. Everybody knows that I'm a mommy's girl, I just expected her to tell me. Maybe if I found out from her I wouldn't have freaked out like I did. I trusted her with my secrets but she didn't with hers," I stated.

"I know it's hard but I think you should let it go. Yea, it is hard but try to put yourself in her shoes. If it was important to you but you didn't want your children to know because of their reactions towards it, would you tell them?" He asked.

"I know that you aren't going to let it go but please do. I have been asking for a mother for long now and you have one. Please just do it for me!" He pleaded.

"We have been talking for some minutes now, I want to sleep. I'll see you tomorrow," I cut the video call rudely not even waiting for him to reply.

I kept my phone on the table and I jumped under my covers. I turned off the lights waiting for sleep to come and take me.

I don't know how many hours I slept or whatnot. I was just happy that I woke up early, at least that's good. My body sluggishly took me to the table where my phone laid. I skimmed through it and slightly shocked.

My phone was filled with messages and missed calls from...apparently Loren. I mean several unread messages and dozen of missed calls. I admit it was rude to leave him hanging like that. He didn't deserve it.

I need to at least text him. It will ease my mind. I grabbed my phone and roughly typed a message and briskly sent it.

I didn't wait any longer for a reply before I moved to my bathroom to take a warm bath.

Doing all my necessary stuffs for a proper school day didn't take much time at all. In the process of taking my bag, my phone beeped and I smiled knowing who is was already.

I walked over to my table and grabbed it but was quickly snatched away in less than a minute.

"What?" I was shocked. Who did that?

"Maybe it's a ghost!" I heard a soft voice. To say I was scared is an understatement. I was terrified, I'm just happy that it wasn't a ghost.

"What are you doing here?" I questioned after a brief sigh. Alanna looked at me with her hands on her hips. She acted so innocent and I cringe, she does it so well.

"You missed morning prayers," she mentioned and I gasped. I have never missed that before. What is wrong with me.

"I think I oversleep, I'm not sure," I tried to say. I knew that immediately I step my foot downstairs I'm going to be questioned.

"Well, that's new since you are always the perfect one," she breathed. My eye brow raised. What did she mean exactly.

"My wouldn't take it likely but it's done." She dumped my phone on my bed. "Now come on," she dragged me out of the room. It was like she didn't want to do it but was forced to. I don't judge her since we aren't the best of friends. As much as it felt bad to leave Loren's message in my phone hanging I had to face my own mistakes.

"Good morning my lovely parents and siblings," I greeted cheerful entirely ignoring my parent's glares. No luck there.

"You miss prayers...." Mom trailed off. He hands neatly crossed over her chest. This is going to be rubbed on my face through out today.

"I might have overslept," I justified myself. Her eyebrow raised. She knew that I would never miss prayer on propose. Never at all. It's like my body was used to waking up early, waking everybody else for prayer but today was different. I can't help but think it's the result of Loren's call.

"Okay let it not happen again. Sleep earlier next time," she glanced at my siblings. "All of you,"

Yeah it's my mom alright. My dad doesn't say much, he's more of an action man and that makes him the best dad when it comes to showing love but we all hate him when its time for punishments.

I walked to the table where the food had already been kept. Sat down on my chair and dug in.

"Where's twilight, she wasn't in my room all night," I asked as I waited for her to come for her morning bath and snuggling.

"She stayed in our room, I have already given her a bath," mom clarified and I nodded. I know that she is doing this just to try to get my attention.

"Okay," I glanced at her. Her eye gazed into mine as she smiled. I simply ignored her and returned to my food.

I finished quickly and raced to the car after saying goodbyes to my parents. Behind me was my siblings, we greeted Tony as he motioned us in. He drove off.

Reaching school wasn't a problem, traffic wasn't tight so the car moved without restrictions.

And due to our school being close to our house we were there in a matter of minutes. Which wasn't so long at all.

"Thanks Tony," we chorused and waved at him as he drove away. When he was out of sight we walked into the school to our lockers and then Alanna went her way.

"Where do you think Clara is, is she going to pop up like yesterday?" I asked with a giggling as we strolled down the hall.

"Actually, she is. She's sorry she left you both to yourselves. She was showing Loren here a few places," I groaned. Clara is just so... I don't know! That last sentence however made my ears stand. My eyes sought unravel any hidden motive from Clara, when I found none other than the smile she had on I diverted my gaze to that of Loren.

He's hazel eyes boring into my blue ones proved something. That he was worried about me. He still had that boyish look but it was clearer today. His hair was neatly gelled to the side and it sparkled in the light. His uniform was neatly ironed and looks so good on him.

"Hey Alyssa," he continued with a smile. That had me smiling back. His mouth continued to move but I didn't hear anything. It was like my ears failed me. My hands were sweaty and terribly uncomfortable.

What is wrong with me?
