Chapter 2 episode 2

Chapter 2 episode 2

Every day was worse than the last, exhausting and draining. I physically didn't know how much longer I could take, I knew my dad was concerned for me but there wasn't much we could do about this situation.

My anger and frustration would get the better of me some days, I couldn't control how I spoke or the way I snapped. It was planned out for me, to act like this. It was made to destroy anyone around me and any relationships I had built, leaving me isolated and alone for the rest of my life.

Pandora knew what she was doing when she cursed me, she thought out every little detail down to the nub. Turning me completely cold to other walks of life, forcing me to lash out at those I love no matter how hard I try to fight it. It was impossible.

The more I fought, the more painful it became. It was easier for it to just take hold of me but I knew once I did that, Pandora would have won.

By the fourteenth day, we had traveled far from our old pack house. Every day adding a tonne of bricks onto my back, pure hatred spread through my veins. Desperate for revenge, desperate for her to feel my pain, how she had completely ruined my life without an inch of empathy.

We continued to walk through the forest, hopping between different places so we could sleep somewhere sheltered and protected. My dad had created a fire to keep us warm now the nights had turned a million times colder, he had hunted a rabbit and then skinned it, cooked it, and served it for dinner.

My eyes stay trained on the orange flames that burn in front of me, the wood popping every so often, and the smell of smoke wafting up into my nose. "I've decided," I say suddenly as I throw my finished bone down onto the fire. "I want revenge," I state simply.

My dad's eyes look up to mine with a blank expression. "Revenge?" He repeats.

I nod and stand from the log we were perched on. "Yep, I'm going to go back," I growl out, grabbing onto a backpack full of supplies.

"Megan," my dad shakes his head and stands to stop me. "You'll end up killed, you'll end up being tortured until you're begging for them to stop."

My eyes burn up in fury. "Are you with me or against me?!" I shout out to him suddenly. His eyes blink back at me, his mouth opening to speak but I cut him off. "Because to me, it sounds like you're a coward and taking her fucking side."

"Megan," he says instantly. "I'm trying to help you."

"No!" I shout, my anger rising through my throat. "No, you're not trying to help me! You don't want to help me because you can't stand up to your own fucking wife." I spit out towards him, fury fuelling my words.

"I've never seen you like this before Megan," he says in disbelief, taking a step away from me like he was scared.

"I have no idea who you've become."

"That's because she has turned my emotions inside out, the curse is trying to turn everyone against me!" I yell loudly, my teeth gritting harshly. "She's done this on purpose to hurt us!"

"Then be better," he tries to reach out for me. "You're better than this."

My arm pushes his away with such force that I don't even remember having that much strength, he cries out in shock and turns to me. "I can't be better," my body shakes, clenching my hands to try and stop my body from lashing out. "You have no fucking idea what it's like."

"Megan please," he tries again, stepping closer to me to grab my shoulders.

"No!" I shout as I shove him backward unintentionally, watching as he stumbles into the tree behind him. He smacked his head loudly against the bark, his eyes looking dazed and his mouth hanging open.

Both of us were in shock but I physically couldn't show it.

My throat swallows and I look up at the midnight sky, screaming until my lungs feel like they are about to burst. Then when I look down at my father he scutters for his belongings, his stance trembling. "I don't want to take part in your revenge," he tells me as he slowly backs away from me. "Your emotions are too powerful, they're terrifying. You can get the revenge you're so clearly seeking but I will not be a part of it."

"Fuck you," I sneer at him fiercely. "You're meant to be my father, stick by me."

"You would have hated who you have become Megan," he shakes his head at me in disappointment.

My canines flex at him as I lung forward, watching as he stumbles back and begins to dart through the trees. Not once looking back. My teeth grit at his actions as I resist the urge to start running after him. I had to remind myself that he was my father and no matter how much I hated what he said, he was still blood. Even if the need inside me to kill him was at the forefront of my mind.

I fell onto the log beneath me, letting my shoulders sink and exhaling a breath that I was tightly holding. I need to get hold of my inner instincts before I start using violence as a defense mechanism to battle this curse.

Things could turn sour quickly and it would all be because of me.

. . .

"Oh my God," I laugh out loud as I turn to my father. "Why would you lie to me? Look what I've done now."

My dad looks over at the art piece in front of me, telling me to mix orange and green together to create purple. "You've just not got the artistic taste I do," he shrugs at me, the brown smudge now across my white canvas.

"Shut up, you had one art lesson from Penny and now you're telling me that you're bloody Picasso," I roll my eyes towards him.

He laughs and lowers his hands to my shoulders, kissing the top of my head gently. "I thought you would have some kind of artistic hand but I guess I was wrong."

My mother's throat clears in the doorway to the art studio, her long black dress gown touching the floor as she leans onto the door hinge. Her eyes flicked between us. "Are you coming to bed, Nick?" She asks. "It's almost midnight and you're up, painting?"

"Sorry my love," he shakes his head to her. "Megan couldn't sleep so I suggested that we could paint together."

Noticing how my mother's eyes turn dark at my father's words, her fists tightening as they fold against her chest. "Really?" She tilts her head in clear annoyance. "At this time?"

My dad moved away from me. "You know Megan has bad insomnia," he says in a hushed tone but I could still hear him. "I don't want her to get upset."

"You spend every day with her and now you want it to eat into the time that we are meant to spend our alone time?" Her voice snaps harshly causing my dad to turn and look at me suddenly.

I turned my eyes to the canvas in front of me but continued to listen. "Are you kidding Pandora?" He asks in disbelief. "She is our daughter, you should care about her wellbeing."

"And what about mine?!"

My heart rate increases as my dad pulls back from her, ushering them out of the room and closing the door behind them. Even though he thought that I couldn't hear them, my mother's crackly and dominant voice was evident through the walls.

"She's always taking up our time. I'm starting to think that you prefer her over me." My mother grumbles out like a spoilt child.

I push out the stool from underneath me and quietly walk closer to the door, desperate to hear my dad's response. "What is going on with you Pandora?" He says gently.

"What's going on is my daughter is taking my husband away from me!"

My eyes blink back at her outburst, I knew she hated me but I didn't know she despised me this much. Thinking that I was trying to take my dad away from her like he was my personal belongings. We could easily enjoy each other's company as a family but my mother was selfish, she only wanted my dad. Never once cared for me.

Sometimes I think if I didn't have my dad, my mother would have fed me to the rogues. Watched as they ripped me limb from limb until I bled to death on the floor, using my blood for some deathly spell that would bring me back to life. Enough to torture me for eternity.

He is my only lifeline, without him I would be nothing. He has taught me every walk of life, he helped me grow up to be the best person I can be. But my mother can't deal with her jealousy, convinced that she put a spell on my father so that he would never leave her.

As my mother is half witch, half wolf, her abilities are limitless. She's always been a scary woman, even though I know my parents are mates. There is no way anyone would actively want to be with my mother. She has some wicked ways and even though I know she loves my father, I wouldn't put it past her to snap his neck if he didn't obey her orders.

Eventually the studio door cracks open and I scurry back to the stool, picking up a random paintbrush and holding it to the canvas.

My dad peeks his head around the door, catching my attention. "Hey," he says quietly. "I'm going to bed with your mother now, I'll see you in the morning."

I nod back to him and force a smile, this always happened. She always got her way, not being able to stand the fact that he spent time with me. Even if they just were going to sleep.

"Love you," he smiles.

"Love you. Night Mum." I shout after her but the door slams loudly, and I hear them walk away and up the stairs. Betting on the fact she is cursing about me to my father, giving him an earful of why he's being a bad husband to her.

That I've come between them and ruined their marriage. I've heard them talk before about me, my dad always sticks up for me but then ten minutes later he's following my mother. I blame her powers, there's no way my dad would so easily change his mind.

I let out a harsh sigh as I turned back to my painting, knowing that I wouldn't be able to sleep now. My brain was full of a million different thoughts, I would be up all night playing a bunch of random scenarios in my head for no reason.

Torturing myself slowly as I let my mother get into my head, understanding that she was trying to isolate me from my father. Pull us apart until he no longer wants to spend time with me, imagining that she makes up ludicrous lies to him to make me seem troubled.

I knew all of the tricks in her book, she was always abusing her power and it was only a matter of time before she did something that would ruin all of our lives.
