After the funeral and gathering, I entered the house and plopped down on the couch. Conner joined me as Dad carried in a bag of food. People love to feed you when a family member dies. Mom brought in flowers.
“Funerals don’t bother me, but this one hit me hard,” I replied.
“Yeah.”
I peeked at Conner. “Are you okay?”
“It’s hard when someone who cares about you isn’t here. Nixon helped me when I left home. He provided me with a haven.”
