So I wait, I do my hair in the afternoon, the colour process is long and I have done it carefully, section by section, in the way of someone who is not in a hurry because the plan has been built to accommodate the time it requires. I watch myself change in the mirror, my reflection shifting from the version of me that I have been presenting to the world back toward something more fundamental, more original, more correct.
Dark hair, my face, his favourite colour waiting in its tissue paper on the bed. When the colour is done and dried I stand in front of the mirror...
