Three months have a way of changing everything and nothing simultaneously. The girls have made themselves known, this is the only way I know how to describe what happens in the second trimester when the pregnancy stops being something you are managing and becomes something that is actively, unmistakably, and sometimes quite firmly present. They move, they have opinions about positions and about mealtimes and about whether the particular food I have chosen to eat is acceptable to them, which it frequently is not, and they communicate these opinions with a directness that I find, against all rational expectation, completely wonderful.
