I stared at those four words until they blurred.
I have your father.
My hands were shaking so badly I nearly dropped the phone. Evans crossed the kitchen in three steps and took it from me, reading the message himself. His face went completely still in that way it did when he was trying not to show fear.
"Call him," I said. "Call my father right now."
Evans was already dialing. He put the phone on speaker and set it on the counter between us. It rang four times. Five. Six.
