Greg arrived. He and two others pulled her out efficiently, and she went ungracefully, landing on the pavement outside, her coat askew, her composure cracked for exactly two seconds before she reassembled it.
I rolled the window down halfway, glaring dangerously at her. She stood up and smoothed her coat and walked back toward the car, and the look on her face had shifted into something I recognised and didn’t like. She’d moved past the performance, this was the real version.
“You know you want me,” she said, reaching toward the window, her fingers moving toward my face.
