Sandy's voice carried through the entire ground floor of the estate like a small, joyful alarm, high-pitched and breathless the way it always got when she was excited about something.
Brian was quieter, the way he always was, but even he let out a sound I hadn't heard from him in a long time, a real, full laugh that bounced off the marble floors and found me all the way across the hall.
