"You are not our daughter!"
"Your parents were deranged drunkards who died in car accident."
Mum harsh words sang in my head as I walked along the streets. Tears flowed freely from my eyes.
All this in twenty four house?
I found out i am a month pregnant.
Ernest divorced me.
Now this.
My parents are not really my parents.
Why is all these happening to me?
Because, I had a moment of weakness?
Is that why?
If only I had stayed at home that night, I wouldn't be in this mess.
But I wouldn't find out about this huge secret from the people I call my parents.
All my life, they are the ones I know as my parents. Why did they keep such secret from me?
This explains why....why they were so eager to get me married to Ernest. I did like Ernest and wanted the marriage but they were very much eager than I was.
They also couldn't further my education. Dad made me see reasons why Bryan and Aria needed education most. He said I should sacrifice my education for them as the eldest. I agreed to it because I felt bad about the little they had and I loved my siblings so much.
Little did I know that they were just pushing me away as the stranger that I am.
My heart ached severely.
I sobbed as Ernest filled my thoughts. Though i lived with parents and suspected nothing, their love towards me can't be compared to the love Ernest showed me in the past two years.
He is not a wealthy man but he treated me like his queen. He loved me so much.
And I repaid him with this shame.
With this baby inside me.
Kim, what is wrong you?!
What are you going to do?!
The night is cold and the streets are very quiet. I can't even tell if I am sacred. My thoughts are clouded with my plight.
I have been walking for almost an hour now with no clue of what to do. I don't even have any money on me. The last one I had, I used it for my hospital test.
My phone rang. I took it out of coat pocket.
Ella is the dialer. I should have called her earlier. She would help me for the night.
I picked the call.
"Kim!" She blurted. "Gosh, I was so worried. What is going on? I didn't hear from you." She said, sounding very worried.
"He found out about that stranger from a month ago." I almost cried.
"What? How? You told him?"
"No. How could I? I don't know how he found out. I think someone set me up, Ella." Tears flowed down as I spoke.
"What?"
"They sent him pictures. Awful pictures, Ella." I cried.
"What the hell!"
"I don't know what to do, Ella. Ernest divorced me and kicked me out!" I cried.
"Whoa. This is serious."
I sobbed continuously as I thought about the way he looked at me. It was awful. I can't take the image out of my head.
"Calm down, okay? Stop crying please Where are you now?" She asked.
I looked around me. I recognize the place but it is my first time walking along the particular streets like this. It is so quiet with the lights igniting everywhere.
"Where are you, Kim?"
"I think a few blocks away from my parents' house." I said, sniffling.
"Your parents' house? Good. Go there and stay with them for the meantime."
I let out a sob.
"What's wrong?"
I kept sobbing.
"Talk to me, girlfriend."
"My parents are not my real parents." I cried.
"Huh?"
"They told me themselves. Mum didn't even let me in. She threatened to call the police if I don't leave."
"She freaking said that?"
"She was dead serious. Dad couldn't stop her. They left me outside." I cried.
"What the....." She paused, heaving a sigh. "You know what? Go to a nearby motel and settle there for the night. I will come there tomorrow morning to see you, then we can talk about this and plan on what to do next."
I nodded. "Okay."
"Go quickly. It is not safe for you to be out there all by yourself. Remember you are pregnant." She said.
"Ella,"
"Yeah?"
"I don't....I don't have any money on me."
She heaved a sigh.
"Can you help me out, please."
"Yes sure. I will send you some money. Just go to a nearby motel, girlfriend. Hurry."
"Thank you." I said and she hung up.
Sniffling, I dragged my luggage along as I walked ahead. I kept walking till I got to a motel with the name, Rita's Motel.
There are some girls dressed in very revealing attires, hovering around the motel with cigarettes in their hands. The smell of their cigarettes affected my belly as I walked past them and into the motel.
My phone beeped and I checked it. I got a notification. Ella just sent some money to me.
She is a life saver. I don't know what I would do without her.
She is just a medical student living off her elder brother but that didn't stop her from helping me.
I transferred the money to the receptionist and I got keys to a room. I think the money will be enough for two days. That's enough time to figure out what to do.
Ella is going to help me.
I headed upstairs and towards my room. It is room number eight, at the first floor. I entered the room and closed the door behind me.
I left my luggage close to the door and walked towards the windows. I focused my gaze on the cold night and the lights are igniting the city.
Tears found their way down my eyes. I cried painfully as my heart clenched.
I felt everything.
Self pity.
Regrets.
Shame.
It is so clear now. My real parents were drunkards. That's where I got my drinking issues from.
It killed them.
Mine has killed my marriage.
The beautiful marriage given to me. I have destroyed it.
I deserve everything that is happening to me right now.
I deserve it and more.
Ernest is an angel and I humiliated him like this.
All because of some moments of boredom. Something I could handle. Still, I allowed myself make a mistake.
I allowed myself get set up.
I even got pregnant for a random man!
Kim!
How could you, Kim?!
I fell on the floor, crying my eyes out. The pain is severe.
I can't take it.
It hurts so deep.
The look on Ernest face, the betrayal and pain on his face will hunt me.
It will hunt me forever.
What have I done?
***********************************
I opened my eyes to the rays of the sun hitting my face. I realized that I fell asleep on the floor. I felt pain in my head, making me whimper as I looked around me.
I recognized the motel.
Yesterday's event filled my head, making my heart tighten.
I felt my system reacting. Something was coming up belly. I am about to throw up. I quickly got on my feet and ran into the bathroom. I poured everything into the toilet.
It kept coming and coming.
My system was on fire.
I kept throwing up. A few seconds later, my system relaxed.
I let out a cough. I pressed a button connected to the toilet and it flushed. I walked towards the taps and turned it on. I took some water in my palms and washed my mouth and my face.
I looked up, coming in contact with the average mirror on the wall.
It's the pregnancy. The symptoms. I look awful.
My heart tightened as I thought about my life.
About Ernest.
Sighing, I stripped off my clothes and walked towards the tub. I did all my business before walking back into the room. I wiped my body with my clothes as I walked towards my luggage. I placed it on the bed and opened it.
I took out my clothes and closed it back. I put them on, applied lotion and dried my hair with my clothes.
The motel didn't provide any towels. And I didn't carry any. I usually share a towel with Ernest.
My heart tightened instantly.
I have no idea how I am going to live with this. Ernest is all I can think of and it breaks my heart.
Sighing, I climbed the bed. My stomach made a sound. I feel so hungry. I have no money for food.
And I can't ask Ella for any. She has done her best for me. It will be inhumane to ask for more. I hope she brings food for me when she comes.
Not long later, sleep took over me.
**********
My phone rang, waking me up. I picked it up and placed it on my ear.
"Kim," Ella's voice came through.
"Ella,"
"I am sorry, girlfriend, but I can't make it. Something big came up." She said, making me sit up.
"Why...wha..."
"I got a scholarship to study abroad. Can you believe that?!" She squealed happily.
"Wow."
"Finally, I am going to be a doctor!" She squealed happily.
"Wow....Ella. That's good. Congratulations." I said, feeling my aching heart. She just said she can't make it.
"Thank you, girlfriend. Can I call you right back, please." She hung up before I could say anything.
I heaved a sigh.
A knock on my door made me flinch.
I heaved a sigh as I got off the bed and walked towards the door. Opening the door, I saw the receptionist from last night.
"Good....Good morning." I said.
She scoffed, taking out the lollipop in her mouth and said, "Afternoon to you."
Afternoon?
"You need to check out right now. Your time is up."
What?
